Winter Time Flowers Can Still be Interesting

Winter Time Flower

I came across this flower and I wanted to share it as I can not recall ever having seem this particular flower before. The details inside and on the petals facinated me. Naturally when I find new things, I can't wait to share them and learn more about them as I would guess someone out there knows what this is.

Good morning William ... it is definitely a beautiful.  What flowers grow in your area this time of year?  That may give you a clue.  Have a great day.

Good morning William. Wow what a gorgeous flower. The colors are stunning and it is almost like it is wrinkled.

William,

Beautiful, and I  think this is a nasturtium based on the leaves.  I had these covering our hill in Los Angeles.  They are edible, great in salads, and have a peppery, watercress taste...A

Hi Ron & Alexandra Seigel , Thank You, I actually should have remembered this flower. Years ago, there was a famous restuarant in Miami in the Design District called "Food Among the Flowers". I frequented it often and It was probably the most remarkable restaurant that I had ever had the pleasure of eating at. The Interiors of each room were changed often and the floral displays were beyond imagination. The main dining room was completly blacked out ( walls and ceiling) with magnificent lighting and flower displays that were breathtaking. The owner, David ( whose last name I have forgotten) created the most amazing food and flower experience. All dishes were served with fresh flowers and the Nasturtiums were used in the water glasses and on certain salads for decoration. I should have remembered seeing these flowers then. In photography of course, I can capture details that might have been unnoticed before and I guess that is what actually happened here with this flower.

William,

We had a day in Miami while in Key Largo for an inaugural event of a new venture we are involved in with partners, I wish we had known about this restaurant. We went to visit the design district as it is now the "in" place for luxury brands to open flagship stores (Hermes, Cartier, etc).  Many are relocating from Bal Harbor where the owner of the center wanted to imposed a radius clause.  The scene in the area was fun, high energy, and hip.  We had a great lunch at one of the restaurants, and the theme is fresh, sustainable and good.  Art Basel was in full swing, so we were able to enjoy some exhibits.

Nasturtiums are easy to plant, their seed is the size of a garbanzo bean, and they replant themselves and are a great cover instead of ivy...A

Hi Ron & Alexandra Seigel , I think that restaurant has long ago closed. It would be a great concept today, though pretty pricey with the cost of flowers but with the right chef, marketing and price list, it might be possible. Love the name, " Food Among the Flowers". That name may not still be registered and worth looking into. There was no internet back then,

PS, I think the Owner's name was David Harrison

My guess would be a South American Petunia because of the inside and the shape. Your photo is lovely; but then again all flowers are beautiful to me!

Good morning, William -- I am definitely not an expert when it comes to flora or fauna but Alexandra Ron & Alexandra Seigel definitely has a lot of experience at identifying the more beautiful things in life so as soon as I saw her comment it seems spot on to me.

Great photo.

Hi William.  A photographer finds things to photograph wherever he goes!   That is an unusual flower with such odd, unsymmetrical markings. Most flowers have petals that are identically colored -- think roses or dasies.
