Tuesday Travelogue-February 17th

By
Real Estate Agent with John L Scott Market Center 700512026

Welcome to the ongoing weekly series called Tuesday Travelogue. We are in our thirty-third week! Each week, some ActiveRain bloggers are spotlighted to take us somewhere we may not have been on some kind of virtual travel (and it doesn't cost a dime!). Here is the purpose:

" to enjoy the ride"

"take a trip without even leaving the farm"

"expand your horizons"

"see through someone else's eyes"

 and hopefully much more!

(Be sure and click on the links in blue.)

In our travels across America alphabetically, we are at the end of the "I" states...Iowa to be exact. Let me see what I can find.

Opera in Cedar Rapids, Iowa??  You bet!!

photo of a scene in Carmen

Granted, this was back in January, over a year ago, but it's fun to show how the arts can be found in this state where there is a lot of corn and open spaces! I enjoyed Karen Feltman's posts, as I haven't really read much of her work before now. I will now and I'm going to hit the "follow" button as a result!

Here we are at Davenport, Iowa at a humongous skate park! The people don't even look real....and even though this was in March of '08, the post-snow post is fitting!  Lucky Lang (yeah, that's his name, really! I don't make this stuff up), shows us a couple of things you can do in Davenport, and check out the Mississippi if skating isn't in your "wheel"house!

With all of the talk about SO MUCH SNOW, isn't it kinda fun to think about July and summer events in the heat of summer?? How about a 4th of July parade in Coralville, Iowa? Thank you, Denise Hamlin, for showing us something besides snowbanks!!

Doesn't having coffee at a place called PerkUp Cafe make you want to check it out, just cuz the name is happy and SAYS what they are??

A new place in Urbandale, Iowa, along with new blogger, Wanda Greif has me all perked up to read more! Join me in welcoming Wanda...go check her out and be sure and comment to welcome her aboard!

Please don't forget to comment on these blogposts and I hope that you enjoyed all of these virtual travels. Feel free to join our group:

Patricia Feager, MBA, GRI, Cert Negotiations Expert, Military Relo Prof --that might take some doing considering my hubby doesn't want to travel anywhere outside of the US. My sis and I are discussing Europe. In the meantime, since you and I love to read (and write), check out John Steinbeck's book, Travels with Charley in Search of America--loved it--read it last Sept. when I actually GOT to travel back east!

Russ Ravary glad you found this and thank you (again) for starting to follow my blog!

Gita,  enjoy them....sometimes I wandered off of the alphabetical trip across America for some other exotic fare...

Debbie Reynolds --Coffee Stops Across America...whaddya think? Or Koffee Klatches Across America...hmmmm...

Angelica Blatt thanks for stopping by and also for becoming a new follower...

Richie Alan Naggar Author PEARLS SERIES of books --I thought it would take quite awhile to find localism posts for Iowa, but surprisingly it didn't! (I also found a blogger from AZ whom I've been trading e-mails with because he gets buyers from Iowa...interesting idea).

I have often thought that one need no need a travel agent to find places to visit in our country, all we need is to read blogs, and then you started this highlight series.

I like it. I'll start with a Per Kup coffee. Those are great pics for those like me who have only been to Iowa once for a soccer ternament. Did not have much time to smell the roses. A/R back then may have given me some more options

Ed Silva --it is SO much fun to discover new places across our wonderful country and beyond. To have found Santa Claus in Indiana recently was a crack up! Who knew?? I sometimes just read an an unusal name of a city listed and click on it--what the heck, give it a try. It has opened up quite the world of travel for me and hopefully for many others as well!

Doyle, Iowa is more interesting than  at first "blush"!

Gayle, this blog series is so much FUN for us, your AR fans! Your Iowa highlights have me thinking a road trip across the USA should be one of my future vacations.

Kathleen Luiten --I did that many years ago, from Philly through Ohio, Nebraska, Iowa, let's see....Colorado, Idaho, Utah and WA state before ending up in Portland Oregon. It was AMAZING! I saw the most interesting things along the way. Ended up at a rest stop with a HUGE tractor trailer that had an entourage of police cars in front and maybe behind....the world's largest magnet was being driven across country to go to the San Francisco Observatory. The driver was doing only 25mph--can you IMAGINE how very very long that took??

In Nebraska, we ended up in the middle of a sheep herding expedition down the main highway! First time I ever saw black sheep! The sheepherder, on horseback was W-A-Y up in front almost a mile or more away and the sheep just kept moving forward amongst the cars....hysterical!

I love travelling across the country.  I like the mundane and normal too.  I drove through Kansas last summer and stuck primarily to state highways rather than the interstate.  We have a great and beautiful country.

Kathleen Luiten--guess I better qualify this by saying they weren't ALL black sheep--but the ones that leaped over the front of my car (that I got pics of) WERE!

Kimo Jarrett glad you (finally) found it! Stay tuned for many more~

Gene Riemenschneider--as I mentioned in an earlier comment, you might check out the book by John Steinbeck called Travels with Charley in Search of America...a memoir of his traveling alone with his standard poodle, Charley--it's truly a great read, especially if traveling across America is a passion!

Liz, thank you and I hope this spurns you on to plan one!

Marilyn O'Donoghue --thank you, as I don't get many comments on that anymore! Took that while my hubby and I were canoeing a year ago this month! (February always offers a window of early spring out here on Fishhawk Lake).

Lisa, a lot of people have said that, so I am ALWAYS happy when the reaction is positive--I was most surprised to see it featured today!

I actually thought it was really odd to have my almost 3 year old post suddenly featured, but I guess I "get" it now. Thanks for the mention. You make a good point. This is a good way to see what other parts of the country look like.
