NH Home Staging Tip - Consider Each Showing A Walk On The Red Carpet

By
Home Stager with Sharon Tara Transformations

After all the hype and anticipation, the Academy Awards are over.

All that's left now is the fashion buzz.

I'll be watchng Fashion Police tonight to see who wins "Best Dressed" and who gets criticized for their poor choice in style.

"Worst Dressed" can be very entertaining.

"There's no such thing as bad publicity."  Negative press regarding an actor's choice of formal wear isn't all that bad because it gets them talked about....it gets them the attention they crave and the attention they need to succeed in their business.

"The only thing worse than being talked about, is not being talked about."   Oscar Wilde

However, the same is NOT true when it comes to selling a home.  The last thing you want is potential buyers labeling your house "worst dressed".

When you list your home for sale, you should consider every showing as a walk down the red carpet.

Imagine thousands of people (wouldn't that be nice!) focused on every detail of your appearance....every last detail.

You only have that one chance to impress them, before they turn their attention to the next one, and then the next one after that.

Will you be the one they applaud and remember with high praise or will you be easily forgotten? Even worse....will you be the one they remember with their eyes rolling up as they make fun of you to others.

Don't be the "what were they thinking?"  listing.

How you prepare and present your home for showings will determine whether you make a positive or negative impression!

This one should have been featured.  So sad they took our ability to recommend these.  I wonder who decides to make a post a feature...  Our votes have been taken away

No Pressure! Ever!

Great post!  Love your comparisons and it is sooo true.  Sometimes I cringe when I go in to a listing and I want to scream about how awful it was, but then I remember that I don't really want others doing that to me , so I shut up and simply remember it.....and don't go back.

Gayle:  I never did end up watching Fashion Police last night...hope to get to it tonight. I was surprised Joan was passed by too.

Tammy:  Your listings wouldn't end up there.  The ones that do, deserve it, in my opinion. The agents should know better.

Dorie:  Watching her on the red carpet, or Fashion Police after the show was a favorite part of the awards for many people.  Disappointing.

Sharon: Thank you.  I'm looking forward to our own Red Carpet next week!

James:  Thank you, I appreciate your vote, even if it doesn't count!

Susan:  I spoke my mind big time when I was looking at homes....I didn't hold back.  They need to know what people are thinking but won't say.  They need the wake up call!

Gita:  Thanks for the comment!

So true Sharon! The buyers viewing is short lived and only one of many they will do. Make that time work for you in a positive way.

Janice:  Their attention span is short lived, but it's their memory that the seller needs to worry about!

Listing agents would be wise to take your advice and find a trophy rather than a price reduction !

Sharon, such a creative analogy and so spot on! Worst dressed houses are not going to sell for top dollar.

Sharon- another well-written post.  Getting your house ready to sell is very much like walking the red carpet.  The audience will scrutinize everything.

You delivered the message so well and it is so true. Agents love to talk about the gross listings and spread the word to not show.

You have to take it that seriously if you want to be effective to the point of reaching the person's essence.

I think every agent has taken a listing that, in the end, the seller did not "dress up" the house as we instructed and they were labeled worst dressed by buyers. But just like the celebrities they can always blame their dress designer(real estate agent) for the poor showing.

Evelyn:  Getting the buyer is even more valuable than getting an oscar in the real world!

Laura:  I like the way you put it, "reaching the person's essence".  Thank you!

Sheila:  Thank you!  I appreciate that, and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Nicole:  So true....the agent often times get blamed for the sellers' lack of cooperation!
