It's Spring, the easiest thing to do to help sell your property and put money in your pockets!
Whether your home has been for sale for months or is just about to be listed, this one thing will help it sell. What is it?
Spring Clean!
The number of times I am showing homes and my buyers mention how dirty the house is and how it makes them feel negative about the upkeep in the house and how the house has been treated by the present owners.
So, take some time and do a good thorough Spring clean which will then allow you to keep on top of keeping the home clean for future showings.
What is a thorough Spring clean?
If you have carpets, get them steam cleaned. Move furniture and vacuum or steam clean under it. Move bookshelves away from walls and clean behind.
Wipe down baseboards with a little vinegar and water, yes you may have to get on your knees for this one, and wipe the floor along the edges of the room as well. Swiffer products are great for this as well. Whilst you have that water and vinegar solution, wipe the tops of pictures, windows and door frames as well. A big one people often miss is cleaning the top of fan blades. Clean the windows, inside and out. Wipe down counters and clear up all the clutter that accumulates over the winter on desks and counter tops. Desks need a good dust on them and under as well, especially where cables lie on the floor.
Stairs is one of the areas where people ignore cleaning the baseboards and where clients notice dirt the most, so don't miss these.
Change your filters in your heating and AC unit. Put a little note on your heater with the date as well. Also, if you did not change batteries in your smoke detectors now is a good time and also puta little note with the date so you know when to change them again. Why not go ahead and have your heater and central air serviced as well so anyone coming can see you take care of your property, service techs nearly always note the date of the last service, so make sure they do clearly and make it visible.
Clean those gutters of any debris from the winter. Rake the lawn of leaves and branches. Move the trash can out of sight. Mulch the beds and plant some spring flowers to give a pop of color. If you have time and the weather is warm enough a fresh coat of paint on the front door and garage doors also helps.
This sounds like a lot, but the impression you will make will put dollars in your pockets and cost you a minimal amount.
My wife Trudy is Dutch and they are renowned for their Spring Cleaning and they often as soon as the weather is a little bit warmer "air" the house as well, of course they clean every window frame and slide as they do this.
Good luck with those home sales. If you live on or around the Main Line in Philadelphia and need advice or help selling your home or purchasing a home give us a call we would be glad to meet you to discuss.
