Today Is World Voice Day
What is World Voice Day? Many people have vocal disorders which prevent them from speaking or speaking normally. Most of the disorders fall under the category of Spasmodic Dysphonia which can happen at any age and for many reasons.
Diane Rehm of NPR and Scott Adams, creator of Dilbertboth suffer from SD (Spasmodic Dysphonia). Losing your voice may not sound like a big problem but believe me it is. I know.
Imagine trying to do your job; what if you have to deal with the public and explain things or be a customer service rep. Or maybe be a star of NPR like Diane Rehm. Or a singer/performer like Jimmie Rodgers. Remember “Honeycomb” and “Kisses Sweeter Than Wine”.
And Diane Rehm of NPR
If you, or someone you know is having vocal problems; breathy vocalization, speaking in broken sentences, no volume, check with an ENT doctor especially one who is an Otolaryngologist. Go to the national organization for vocal disorders here. Or take a look here too.
World Voice Day Is Today so I will tell you that I have a vocal chord problem. It started last year after a really bad cold and weeks of coughing. It came on slowly until I realized one day, I no longer had a voice. My throat felt like there was a box in it and I was having trouble swallowing. Especially meat, I began choking on it. It has impacted my life but I went to Speech Therapy and things have improved! Don’t sit there and do nothing; get out there. We’ll talk more another day.
