Water - Use it Wisely -

Water is not a finite resource.  Those living in drought states will tell you about their experiences.   There are so many ways that we may be wasting water that it bears repeating -Water - Use it Wisely!

Here are some basic ways we can save water:

In the Kitchen:        Carry refillable drinking containers & glasses versus buying                                   water bottles

When rinsing produce, catch the excess to water your house                                    plants

Microwave vegetables or cook with as little water as                                                 possible (use excess in soups)

Thaw food in the refrigerator versus running water over it

Run dishwasher and washing machines when full

Bathrooms:              Use low flow shower heads and faucets (make sure they                                          aren't leaking)

Don't leave the room with the shower running, you'll use                                        more water

Better yet, catch that shower water and use it elsewhere

Some models of new toilets use less water

Don't leave the water running while you're brushing your                                      teeth!

Landscaping:          Check your drip system for leaks, correct size drip heads

Plant Xeriscape landscaping for water tolerant plants

Make sure the timer for your landscaping is set to optimal                                      setting without over-watering

Grant Schneider Yes it is!  And in Arizona we need to plan ahead because one day our resource, the Colorado River, may not be able to handle California and Arizona!

I was raised to not waste water.  Oddly enough not because of the water, but because it took electricity to pump it out of our well.  I even wash dishes in a plastic tub and dump the dirty dish water on outside plants to water them.

Jan Green Bet you got some of the rain Texas recently received? But not in the profuse quantities! We are all dealing with this drought...too many people?

@Tammy - you were green before it was popular or a marketing message!

Ted Glover - You're right!  It doesn't matter where you live.

Endre Barath, Jr. - You're right.  They have had more than their share dumped recently!

Sandy Padula and Norm Padula, JD, GRI - We didn't get much of Texas' rain. We're about even for the year.  But remember, we only get 7" of rain a year!

Debbie Reynolds - You're right.  I wish there were more restrictions here.  I grew up with a well in our yard in Kansas.  We posted a sign that said "well" when our restrictions hit and we were within the rules. But not everyone has that luxury.

Chris Ann Cleland - You are so right.  We need to be mindful every time we turn on that tap!
