Is Your Email Encrypted?

By

I have been attending seminars and meetings because of the TRID which is on its way to our front doors soon.

One thing that the guest speaker pointed out was that our email should be encrypted when sending out information via online to another party.

The first time I saw an encrypted email was from a paralegal that my buyer used for his purchase this year. Whenever she sent me an email, I have to sign in with my username and password.

Hence, I can't open it on my I-phone because I don't keep the notes where I put all my passwords and usernames with me. So I told her, "Please don't send me an encrypted email because I am always on the road and can't open it through my smart phone."

She said, "Yes, will do. I don't like using encrypted messsage."

Now, it seems like I have to explore and utilize this message encryption after all. The only way to avoid it is to "Not to send offers or contracts with a copy of Earnest Money Deposit Check."

I don't know yet if wiping out the account number will suffice to be in compliance. I may have to check on that.

So, is your email encrypted? And what do you use to encrypt it?

Hi Maria.  I don't use encrypted email for the reason you stated.  Most people can't open it on their iphone.

Good morning Maria,

We haven't started using encrypted email yet, because many of our customers have a hard enough time just opening a regular email. But it is something to be aware of for the future!

Maria, I have explored this issue.  It appears that many will have difficulty opening and/or reading encrypted emails, so for now it's not on my list.

Maria I can't imagine clients figuring it out and adding to their stress level...usually they ask can I just come to the office & sign the docs.

Maria,

I have seen encrypted emails.  We have not used it, and there is difficulty in opening them.  It is not on my list yet.  Thanks for the head up on the subject. A

Maria, on the Lending side we have had to use encrypted e-mail for a while with documents that contain personal or sensitive information.  It can be a pain at times but we have to protect our Borrowers information.

The answer to your question is no . . . . The e-mail mail issues are worst then wire tabs on our old land lines.

Good luck and success.

Good morning Maria. I am not planning on encrypting my emails, unless I am forced to. I sometimes receive emails that are encrypted, it is always a hassle.

Make it a great weekend!

This is an interesting post. I do not use it because some email systems (depending on setting) will block them. I do send a copy of the check with a black out on the sigs and account numbers.

Maria, I have no personal information in my email that I send, and the EM checks have the account numbers covered.    I think our clients will be totally confused.

From the comments encrypted is not on the radar of most people.

Good luck and success.
