Ask the Questions

“It’s far better to ask a stupid question . . . .

than to make a stupid mistake.”

Lou Ludwig, Sale and Management Consultant,

Success Coach, Speaker, Trainer and Author

As I see it . . . . . . .

Ask the questions

There are times that the information that you receive . . . . is not adequate to complete what you’re doing successfully.

When you’re asked to do something . . . . or to take on a new project you need the right information to successfully complete the project.

When you don’t have enough information . . . . or the right the information at the start of a project . . . . The project can be jeopardized at the onset.  When you didn’t have enough information ask the additional questions . . . . or get additional information that necessary to take action effectively.

Moving forward without the right information . . . . can put you at disadvantage . . . . and put the project at risk.

Asking questions becomes far less painful . . . . then making big mistakes.

There is an old saying that when you’re cutting a piece wood . . . . it better to measure twice and cut once.

Asking questions . . . . will give you the information to move forward with greater confidence. To do the task correctly the first time . . . . saving you both your time . . . . and your resources on doing it over.

When you need an answer ask the questions.

Great point, Lou, and I hadn't quite thought of it that way that by not asking the so-called stupid question could lead to a stupid result.

I tell my clients not to worry, I won't think they are dumb for asking a question of something they don't know or understand.

Lou Ludwig Always ask questions.  I never heard the saying "when you are cutting a piece of wood, measure twice and cut once," but it makes perfect sense!

Hi Lou Ludwig ,  I remember in my early years in school, being afraid to ask questions, because I thought everyone knew the answer except me. Then I found that others were glad I asked the question that they were afraid to ask for the same reason.

I have never been afraid to ask a seemingly stupid question because once asked, you will find that a lot of the time it wasn't so stupid afterall.

Looking For Homes With A Smile

Lou, while in college I took a job working in  a warehouse.  I was four years older than other college student workers, having served in the USAF, so I was placed in charge.  Mistakes were everywhere when I began, so I put my sergeant demeanor and resolve to the task.  Most everyone followed instructions well, but one guy had an amazingly high IQ, and thought he didn't,'t have to comply with instructions.  He pulled several major flubs, and I was told he was on a short leash.  One day he shipped half of an order and marked as complete.  His explanation was "I thought there were twice as many on a skid as there were.  He admitted not counting, and the guy had a wife and baby, so I convinced the boss not to fire him.

My question was, "Why didn't you ask?". His reply was, " It was a stupid question, and I couldn't be asking stupid questions "

I made a 4'x8' sign, placed it above the warehouse door:

"ASK YOUR STUPID QUESTION.  IT IS EASIER TO ANSWER THAN IT IS TO FIX YOUR STUPID MISTAKE."

He began pointing at the sign when new workers asked questions   I am proud to call him my friend

Asking questions is the best way to grow,  you may safe a lot of money by just asking a few simple questions to someone at the top.
