National Dog Day - August 26, 2015 - Our Little Duchess
This morning I remembered it is National Dog Day and numerous folks in Grand Lakes and all of Katy TX have Dogs and love them. It dawned on me I should write a post about our little Duchess who is part chihuahua and part terrier to honor her on National Dog Day. She has been with us for a little less than 6 months and she was less than 1 year old upon her arrival. We enjoy her every day and love her.
Some people know how we acquire Duchess and for those that do not know she was rescued by my stepson Alex as she was running along a busy street in Pearland TX. Whoever had dumped her and she had absolutely no identification whatsoever. She has several tags plus a chip now. Who could dump this precious little girl? Yolanda says I am very protective of her.
It has become obvious to us the previous man owner was the one who dumped her and he was mean to her by her reactions to raising our arm to pet her. She always protects Yolanda and gets jealous when we kiss or hug. The lady previous owner we suspect tried to protect her from the mean guy. It is pretty funny to watch her protect Yolanda. .
She weighed a little less than 10 pounds when she arrived and she was very small and frail. Of course as any dog will do she was good at begging for food especially at dinner time. So good that earlier this month I was told by our vet she had to go on a puppy diet. Her weight had gone from below 10 pounds to 14 pounds in a little less than 5 months. Obviously this is a huge weight gain for a small dog. She was getting way too much people food from individuals not to be named but it was not from Yolanda or I. I think she has lost a little but there is still some weight to be lost.
Enjoy National Dog Day with your dog(s) and take lots of pictures. Take your pup for a nice long walk and give your pup a good treat. I realized today I do not have that many pictures of Duchess. Here are a few that I do have..
