Cool Idea - Learn to Surf in Encinitas AND Help Save the Environment

Surfer CrossingNo, we’re not talking about how surfing in and of itself will save the environment. Of course if you could commute to work that way and save the gas…

But this is such a cool idea I wanted to share it.

Encinitas, California is known for many things, in particular poinsettias and surfing. Surf shops are everywhere, as are surfers and their boards. There are a number of prime surf beaches, with Swami’s being the most famous. Being as popular as it is, one can readily find a surfing school to teach you how to ride the waves.

Me as Surfer Dude...maybeI have written a bit about surfing in my area, and some folks even say I look like a surfer dude at times. I am not a surfer…yet.

Why not learn to surf in a way that will help the environment?

A new surfing school founded by Torrey Trust, Surf eCo, will teach you how to surf AND raise funds to help to preserve the rainforest by purchasing 1000 acres in Costa Rica. In addition, Torry teaches students about environmental awareness, in particular the issues of deforestation in places like the Costa Rican rainforest. Classes are either private or small group.

This CEO is also ecologically minded when it comes to her business operations, purchasing bioform boards, organic biodegradable surf wax, bamboo towels (a renewable resource) and organic sunscreen. Surfers are in many case staunch environmentalists (witness the success of the worldwide Surfrider Foundation) so appealing to others with similar viewpoints makes sense.

Check out this video. And there is even a coupon for a discount.

Surf eCo is located at 1298 S Coast Highway 101, Encinitas, 760-525-6807. Call them at 619-235-3000 for more information or visit their website.
