On Saturday, October 24th the community of Big Canoe was treated to a wonderful and educational event by the Big Canoe Public Safety Department. Public Safety Day included live demonstrations of fire safety, educational descriptions of fire gear and equipment, and even a free lunch for attendees. The event was held at the Big Canoe Public Safety Facility where paid and volunteer fire fighters of the Big Canoe community train to keep the community as safe as possible.
Events During the Day
The event ran from 11:00 am till 3:00 pm and offered the chance to see fire trucks and safety vehicles up close. This was especially enjoyed by the children attending the event.
During the time that I was there I saw a demonstrations of fire safety gear the firefighters wear for protection (see above picture) and also an exhilarating demonstration of a propane tank in flames and how the fire fighters put out such a fire, working together as a team and always facing the fire (see pictures below). We were told firefighters are taught to never turn their back to a fire because of the risk that something unexpected might happen.
Lunch and More
Lunch consisted of hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and soda, which were all donated.
People were able to come and go and still see demonstrations because activities went on all day. I was pleased to see the event was well attended and all who were present seemed to be enjoying themselves. I feel safe living in Big Canoe and knowing how well trained safety personnel are. And I feel confident conveying this to clients searching to buy a home here in my community.
