Yesterday I had the great honor of meeting one of the screenwriters who created 'Inside Out,' Meg LeFauve. She was part of a panel discussion for Diversity In Animation Writing sponsored by the Latino Writers Committee and Animation Writers Caucus.
After the panel wrapped up their main question and answer session, I made my way to Meg because I was so curious to know their process in more detail with the focus of asking, did Emotional Intelligence influence the story?

Meg's response: 'Yes, emotional intelligence came into the screenwriting process a bit later. I was introduced to EI teachings through my son's pre-school for children with special needs. The school recognized the value in learning EI as it creates a greater awareness and means of communication with our children.'
She told the executive producers, by creating this type of movie with complex content, it has the potential to "CHANGE THE WORLD." Infact, the executives thought about removing key emotional characters because they felt it would create 'negative emotions' for movie goers.
In a nutshell, Emotional Intelligence encourages you to embrace all emotions in order to experience Joy and 'Inside Out' captured this perfectly. This movie is not just for children. Adults who have not mastered their own emotions can learn greatly from this animation story.
If you have not seen this movie, please do.
