Is there anything more symbolic of, or more quintessential in the Christmas season than the lighting of a Christmas tree? In Charlotte you can usher in the holiday season at one or more of the numerous tree lighting events all around the Charlotte metro area. Here's where and when:

Thursday, December 3rd:
- Charlotte Uptown Lights On The Square tree lighting between 5:30 pm and 6:30pm pm on the Square at North Tryon and East Trade Streets. Have your photo taken with Santa. And at Founders Hall there'll be live performances, shopping, tastings, and more for you to enjoy.
- Fort Mill, SC tree lighting between 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm in Confederate Park at Main Street in downtown Fort Mill. Lots of holiday music to enjoy, as well.
- Mint Hill, NC tree lighting at 7:00 pm at the Mint Hill Town Hall. In addition to the tree lighting, you can enjoy carolers, apple cider and cocoa, cookies, as well as a visit from Santa!
Friday, December 4th:
- Weddington, NC tree lighting between 5:00 and 7:00 pm at the Weddington Town Hall. The town is asking for donations of new toys and non-perishable food items on behalf of the Union County Christmas Bureau. Santa, carolers, cookies will round out the evening's events.
- Stallings, NC tree lighting and Parade of Trees between 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm in Stallings Park. You'll be able to enjoy Christmas carols, Santa, and holiday treats. And if you have little ones who'd like to meet Santa, come at 4:30 pm.
- Huntersville, NC tree lighting between 6:00 pm and 7:15 pm in downtown Huntersville at the Hutnersville Town Center. Last year over 6,000 came to enjoy live music, hot chocolate, and all sorts of kid's activities.
- Harrisburg, NC tree lighting between 6:00 and 9:00 pm in Veterans Park on Main Street. Appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus, horse and carriage rides through the Town Center, live Nativity scene are just some of the activities you'll enjoy. Local school, church, and civic groups will provide live entertainment.
Saturday, December 5th:
- Pineville, NC tree lighting between 3:00 and 7:00 pm at the corner of Main Street and Church Street. In addition, Santa will arrive to light the tree at 5:30 pm, kids can enjoy a train ride, carols, cookies, crafts . And don't forget about the bonfire where you can toast S'mores!

Matthews, NC tree lighting between 3:00 and 6:00 pm at the Matthews Town Green. Known as the Hometown Holiday Festival & Tree Lighting, Matthews will be offering carriage rides, caricature artists, food vendors, children's crafts, and, of course, a visit from Santa!
- Monroe, NC tree lighting between 6:00 and 9:00 pm in downtown Monroe. The city's mayor will be "doing the honors." There will be live entertainment starting at 6:00pm. The tree will be lit at 6:50pm. After the tree lighting, you can enjoy trolley rides, taking your picture with Santa, Rudolph and Frosty. Live carolers will be strolling the streets till 9:00pm and downtown shops will host "open houses."
Sunday, December 6th:

Indian Trail tree lighting and Christmas parade between 3:00 and 6:00pm at Crossing Paths Park. The parade begins at 3:00pm at Indian Trail Road. Festivities in the Crossing Paths Park begin at 4:00pm. From 4:30 till 5:30 pm, you can have your picture taken for free with Santa and Mrs. Claus, but the town would appreciate donations of new, unwrapped toys. Local area schools and studios will be performing and you can also enjoy cookies and hot chocolate. The actual tree lighting will take place at dusk.
- NODA Community tree lighting at 6:00 pm sponsored by Johnston YMCA, Queen City Church of Christ, and the NoDa community on the front lawn of the Johnston YMCA (3025 N. Davidson St.). You'll enjoy live music, carols, hot chocolate and cookies, Christmas crafts, face painting, and a special visitor from the North Pole.
Saturday, December 12th:
- Marvin, NC tree lighting between 4:00 and 6:00 pm at the Marvin Efird Park. There will be crafts and games for the kids, musical performances by local school choirs and instrumental groups and a visit from Santa!
So whether you live north, east, south or west of the Charlotte metro area, there's a tree lighting ceremony just waiting for you to attend and usher in the season.
