Money Like Manure

“Money is like manure, it’s not worth a thing unless it’s

spread around encouraging things to grow.”

Thorton Wilder 1897 - 1975, American Playwright,

Novelist, Won 3 Pulitzer Prizes

As I see it. . . . . . . .

Money like manure?

Both have a purpose . . . . when used properly they make things grow.

Manure doesn’t smell very good . . . . When it’s used properly it provides a benefit of providing fertilizer. That fertilizer increases the yield of the crops . . . . and as a result the crops grow faster.

Money has very little value when it’s not being used . . . . or invested with a purpose. It just sits there.

Put your money to work for you. Set a little aside . . . . from every paid check into an investment account . . . . and over time the money will grow. As your money grows . . . . the value of your money increase.

Pay yourself first . . . . and watch your money grow.

Why is money like manure . . . . Because when you use it properly it makes thing grow.

Money is like manure ,

when you spread it around ,

it does everything a little good'

but when you leave it piled up.

it just stinks !

Lou Ludwig Love your post.  Not many people would write about manure  & compare it to money but you helped us see how both can help us grow.

Great motivational post Lou!  I actually force myself to split my checks into multiple accounts so I have forced savings for pre-defined purposes (emergencies, fun).

Money is fun, it actually has NO intrinsic value ever since the world went off of the gold standard.  Now it only has the value of what it can buy on the open market (that's the econ 101 definition, amazingly enough!).

From my very first commission check I committed to give 10% away and save 10%. Then taxes take a part and I get the rest.

You either have to grow your money or grow somebody else's money in most cases. But it's always about growth.

I find spending money around makes it grow for you personally. It works for me, as strange as that may seem!
