How Long Is Too Long to Nurture a Buyer?
It can take quite a while to convert today's Internet shopper. How long and how often do you continue to keep in touch? Personally, I keep trying until they ask me to stop. I am now working with one customer who's been on my campaign for close to 10 years.
How Long Is Too Long to Nurture a Buyer?
My website is working and I get many hits and people that register each week to receive updates on listings. Some have an immediate need and are diligently looking for homes and they are the kind of leads I like the most.
Others are not planning to move for awhile and may be checking out the area and the prices to make a plan for a future move. That is all well and good and my system allows them to do that with an integrated IDX. I can also make the decision how often I want to reach out and touch them and let them know I am still in the picture, ready, willing and able to help.
Along comes a lead that is up front and honest about the time frame and will not be making a move for 9 years. This is a little puzzling because in 9 years I have no idea where I may be living or even if I will be living. That is really planning ahead. When it comes to real estate the market and prices are likely to be quite different in 9 years than they are today and so may the economy. I just can't quite grasp this long term planning.
It makes me wonder just how often should I reach out and touch this type of lead. Is once a month too much or not enough? Would once a quarter be better in leiu of the long time span indicated by the buyer? Of course plans can change and excalated and 9 years can become 5 years or less. My thinking is to not devote much time to this but keep it simmering on the back burner. What would you consider simmering to be?
