I live right by the South Fire District Fire House in Middletown, CT, and at least twice a year the Firemen do Vehicle Rescue Training At The South Fire District. During the time the Vehicle Rescue Training is taking place at the South Fire District, there are a number of smashed up cars in there parking lot. Even after the training the recked cars are left in the parking lot for a while to provide a very powerful visual effect for everyone driving by.
This training involve the use of heavy machinery like the Jaws of Life, to rescue passengers and drivers involved in a car accident. Looking at the number of cars and school buses in the parking lot really hits home on how important it is for us as drivers to take all of the precautions possible when we are behind the wheel of a car.
Young drivers in particularly feel they are invincible, and better drivers than they really are. Young drivers take risks early on, which put their lives in danger beyond what they realize. As I was taking the pictures below, my thoughts were on how these vehicles could also serve as a valuable teaching tool to demonstrate to young and experienced drivers the risks and dangers they are exposed to every time they get behind the wheel of a car. Seeing a car on its side up along the side of the school bus always provides a very vivid image in my mind.
The Vehicle Rescue Training At The South Fire District will help to rescue drivers from severally damaged vehicles, but I hope they also use these vehicle as tools to encourage safe driving.
