Technology Makes the World Small

Technology can be a wonderful thing. It has given us so many advances over the last 20 years to make life easier. In our real estate world the advances have made the work easier with all at or fingertips, literally.

Today I had an appointment to show one of my listings. As the prospective client entered the home, she said she had to make a call and excused herself.  She came back with her phone and told me she was going to walk her mother through the home, using the Skype app on her Iphone.  For 45 minutes, she walked thought the rooms, asking questions, changing directions as requested, as if the prospective buyer was in the room and not in Northern Virginia.

At the end of the showing came a period of questions relative to pricing, time for occupancy, etc. A request was made for some additional time as well as documents a buyer would need prior to making an offer on a home.

The buyer was 350 miles away but went through the home with the eyes of her daughter as well as a visual on a computer screen provided through the available technology.

This is a long way from the days of real estate books and dependency on the agents to open the doors with limited information. This was definitely a first for me.

Hi Ed,

Technology does make the world smaller and dangerous too.

This the price we have to pay for the convenience it brings.

Good morning Ed. You bet it is small world, the main reason is the technology available to all of us today. It has certainly impacted my business in a big way.

Ed this is a long way from the days contracts were all hand written, and carbon paper was used to make copies.  Of course I never experienced any of that, and I have only read about those things :)

Hi Ed Silva ,  I think it is so cool to be able to market properties through Skype.

Who would have thought 50  years ago.
