YouTube Thursdays - And the best video camera is....
Thank you to Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD for talking about video being important for your real estate business (and it's much easier to do now), and also for highlighting the fact that you need to
Just Do It
It doesn't have to be fancy! Mine aren't. I just found an easy camera to work with and Debb showcased a couple of my videos on and around Fishhawk Lake that I took with my Canon PowerShot SX50HS. I could never figure out how to use video on my other Canon (which is way more expensive). Take Debb's advice, the best video camera is the one that you will USE. Read on for more of her valuable advice!
How to Choose the Best Camera for Video
The best video camera for shooting video is the one you're going to use. When I first started doing videos, my camera was a Canon Vixia Camcorder. It did the job and was pretty easy to use, but I wanted to take another step up in quality. Therefore, after a lot of research I chose the Canon EOS 70D. The reviews suggest it shoots some of the best quality video for a camera in its price range ( about $1200, although I also purchased a wide-angle lens for around $800). Plus, it's the camera Charlie Dresen, my video hero, uses.
I've shot some video with it, but to be honest to fully realize the capabilities of the camera, I need to spend a lot more time getting to know it - and its many features. And, because of my lack of confidence using my complicated camera, I'm not shooting as much video. In fact, I've been using my iPhone 6 more than my camera. That certainly wasn't my goal when I bought the DSLR. Obviously, there 's a learning curve and frankly, I don't have time to invest right now in getting up to speed. One of these days. In the meantime, I'm pining for a camera first introduced by my Colorado pal, Dick Greenberg.
A Camera in use, is better than one in the bag.
Dick went to the Amazon and returned with admiration for a camera used by their expedition leader - a Canon SX50 Powershot. Fortunately, Santa ( I suspect Mary) gave one to Dick on Christmas of 2014. Since then, he's been singing its praises. So loud was his song, that my pal @Gayle Rich Boxman at Fishhawk Lake, decided she needed one too. The surprise for me is the amazing 28-1200 mm optical zoom lens that comes with the camera, and the price - about $350 at Amazon. Both Dick and Gayle have shared some stunning caputures of wildlife while staying a non-threatening distance away. Both would agree there is some loss in quality compared to a DSLR with a spendy lens, but not enough to dissuade most of us from using the Powershot.
I digress. What really impressed me about the camera was Gayle's quick jump into video. While, not its strong suit, the Powershot delivers accepetable video. And, with Gayle's artistic eye, and the gorgeous wildlife and landscape of Fishhawk Lake, I think we'd all agree these videos are more than acceptable. Think of all of things you could do with this remarkable and affordable camera. ( Here's a link to another video featuring birdwatching with the SX50)
I can, without a doubt, suggest the best video camera for you, is the one you're going to use! Happy Thursdays - let's shoot some video today.
