It is "melting like a popsicle" weather - are you chillin?

Today is the first day of summer and from the weather reports I've seen, it has come in fast and furious!!

Many of you down in the southern states are sweltering in your heat wave but so are we up north.  Yes, Canada gets hit with heat waves too but ours comes with humidity which simply drains you when the air you breathe is WET !!

We've been under a heat advisory because, with the humidity our temps were reaching 37°C.

In checking the temperature conversion page to see what that was in your money I thought it very funny that it equaled 98.6 Fahrenheit (°F)

Wouldn't you think if the air temperature is the same temp as our bodies, that we'd not feel a difference?

If the human body is about 98.6 degrees, why are equivalent outdoor temperatures so uncomfortable, even dangerous?

Enquiring minds want to know so, the official answer is this:

Because our bodies need to disperse heat, and they can’t do that effectively when the air temperature is close to our body temperature. Our muscles and metabolism generate heat continuously. We transfer that heat into our surroundings by sweating, exhaling warm air, and circulating blood near the surface of our skin to cool. When the temperature gradient (or difference) between the body and the air is high, heat flows easily from us into the environment, and we cool down. But when the weather hovers around our internal temperature, our inner swelter lingers, and we feel hot and uncomfortable. Humidity makes things worse by interfering with the vaporization of sweat, one of the human body’s main cooling mechanisms.

You're welcome and keep your cool today on the 1st Day of Summer but don't forget to Sizzle too!   PS  I'll be using that fabulous term "my inner swelter" all summer long :)

I can help you find the place to help you keep the perfect temperature so give me a call if you're looking for a lake home with gentle breezes or a home in the City with comfy Central Air!  Susan Emo Sells Homes

Susan,

We are going to have a high of 86.  Since we are 3 minutes from the ocean by car, we benefit from the ocean breezes.  However, many of the surrounding areas are expecting mid 90's.  The real issue is that we have fires to the north of us, and the temperatures with soar to 100.  Add to that what the gear that the fire crews wear, and the packs they carry---that is true hell!  We have nothing to moan about.  A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel I've been watching the news about your fires -  so sad.  I thought the same thing about the firefighters in all that gear -  stay safe!

"Inner Swelter" ... I like that, Susan Emo ...

Know you're not alone in your heat and humidity.  Chicagoland has been both for the last week or so with more on the way ...

Happy Summer Susan Emo

It seems a bit cooler today compared to the past couple of days.  I have been reading about it being between 110 to 125 °F in some areas of the southern USA.

Enjoy our blue sky sunny day today.
