Casting negative light on the industry.

I am not a real estate agent but I don't think this casts a negative light on the industry....I would feel the same way had it been a home stager in the story. It's just another wacko in my opinion and all industries have bad apples. 

I saw that one too, and though I generally do a quick fact check on things like this, this time I was on my phone so I just kept moving along.

So glad Kathy Streib featured this in her "Ah-ha" moments for the week. I saw this on Facebook and you are right it casts us in a bad light even if it isn't true. Kathleen Daniels is right "the darker side of real estate is alive and well. The industry does not have a glowing reputation." All each of us can do each day is to hold up a set of higher ideals for our clients and those we work with!

Good morning Wanda.  Unfortunately, this is just one case of many false and negative information that is spread randomly by many on the Internet through social media and email.

Good morning Wanda. Unfortunately some people believe everything they hear and see! And, somehow furnishing false information is big business! Enjoy your day!

People often pick up satiric articles from The Onion or The New Yorker and repost them as news.  It would be helpful if the public began from a place of skepticism when the source is unknown.  When the source is "The Ligher Side," that should be a clue.

Hi Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Read an article a couple of years ago comparing professions. while teachers were on the top, real estate agents were right next to used car sales.  So, a lot of this is greed and customers who are taken advantage. 

Each one of us can only fight this negative perception one customer at a time.  

It is too bad in the day and age it seems anyone can say anything (almost) with little fear of repercussions.

Everything on the Internet is not true, and it boggles my mind how many times people see something and instantly share it as the truth. 

It's frustrating.

Yep I saw it, a number of times. There seems to be more and more online promoting a negative view of our industry, and sadly I suspect there are many who are quick to believe what they say and read. No doubt there are issues - we all know that - but there are plenty of success stories we all have experienced and shared, with lots of very happy buyers and sellers.

A restauranter wanted to sell her business. I went there with her daughter's friend, another agent. Owner lied about several things and I felt uncomfortable with her dishonesty.   Fast forward a few years later, I passed there other agent said it was set on fire and a coffee shop bought it X times higher than its worth.  I said good.  I do not want to deal with arson. Good for her. 

Hi Wanda - this is certainly a terrible post and something all realtors should slam. Unfortunately they are free to do it but a response is called for.

I'll chime in by saying I too saw this post Wanda Kubat-Nerdin but skipped on by. I hope when social media grows up we'll see less of this stupidity. Lately, it seems we're seeing more of it and it does caste a negative light and this particular one casts more, not only on real estate, but on all of us because it serves no other purpose but to diss the space. Glad you shared it, glad it got featured, we need the reminders that stupid is just that, stupid. So let's not just knee jerk react to it and fire off stupid in return.

I always find it funny how people still believe that The Onion is a legit news source.  /facepalm

It is so unfortunate that people just about believe everything that is not real, needless to say to stop some of this nonsense would be not to pass it on, that is my two cents...Endre

I had not seen or heard about this. This untrue news clip will live on forever because people will want to believe it.

I had seen this appear on my Facebook feed, Wanda Kubat-Nerdin ... but I'm a firm believer in not focusing on and sharing negative in my social media.  

I (perhaps somewhat neurotically) think that negative "aura" sticks to you.  I'm constantly amazed at the number of professionals in our industry that share bad or negative news seemingly constantly.  I think people start to view you as the purveyor of bad news when you do that.  I'm not a Pollyanna ... but I do try to share things of value, or things that inform and educate, or at least something positive ...
