Friday's Fotos--A West Coast Friend Flies East to Find Me
This sweet creature greeted my husband and I while on a woodsy walk on Murray Island in Clayton NY, where my mom lives part of the year.
This is a barred owl and the only other time I've ever captured an owl on film in the woods was the exact same type of owl hovering in the dusk at sunset near my ranch on Fishhawk Road in Birkenfeld Oregon.
They make a sound similar to who who cooks for you?

Hi Gayle -- I was thinking last week that I haven't heard an owl for the longest time and then on Wednesday -- yes, WHO WHO WHO in the early morning hours. At least I think it was an owl.

I saw an owl at the Charleston Aquarian and think that is as close to one as I have gotten. Of course I can hear them in my backyard but they are in the tall trees hidden away.

Hello, everyone~owls certainly are fascinating and take on all kinds of "human" qualities sometimes. I took the photo, but alas the fabulous video is not mine. It seemed fitting to use, because it totally captures the vocals of this adorable owl so well. (Actually, I think all owls are adorable and mysterious and elusive mostly).

Marco Giancola I am amazed that you know about Clayton and Boldt Castle!! Just went for a visit there last year with my mom and sister. We were quite familiar with some of the "stories" shared on the little trip taken with the tour guide. Some of the facts were inaccurate, much to Mom's dismay. This was an interior shot I took of Boldt Castle.
