When you want to know why something happened, who do you call?
Of course, you would call “the leading authority” in that area of expertise, right?
That’s what the media does.
When news BREAKS, they scramble to learn the details and to find the leading authority who can help them decipher (make sense of) what happened and why.
Anyone with a progressive and potentially terminal disease (Cancer, Cardio Pulmonary, etc) seeks treatment from the Leading authority of that ailment.
Considering purchasing a technology widget? Maybe your teenage daughter is your local leading authority.
So . . . How do “Leading Authorities” earn their titles?
Is it good enough for them simply to proclaim said status?
Is there a diploma to prove validity?
While there may be plenty of designations and diplomas and awards hanging on her wall, this in no way establishes her as “The Leading Authority” in her field.
What DOES establish this esteemed ranking is her level of engagement in the community of people who need her wisdom.
It’s not the accumulation of wisdom that causes a professional to be a leading authority . . . It’s her willingness to share and her innate trait of CARING.
This doesn’t happen overnight. It requires a singleness of focus . . . on a very specific niche . . . over time.
“Jack of all trades” are almost never “Leading Authorities.”
Leading authorities never stop learning and stretching their art and scope – Always reading – Researching – Questioning – hanging out with peers – and doing whatever they can do to get in the company of people smarter or “further down the down the road” than they.
These are students in perpetuity who may not be the wealthiest in their field but have a solid “track record” of small miracles throughout their careers.
Their trophies come in the form of “BreakThroughs” and are often celebrated personally but not heralded publicly.
The best part about all of this?
ANYONE and EVERYONE can be a Leading Authority, yet most won’t because it requires too much focus in this raplax world.
Maybe it’s less fun to choose to be “less diverse” but if it makes you famous . . .
How are YOU Famous to whom?
Who thinks of YOU first when they think of what?
Whose GOTO person are you?
What is your worth?
Why?
This is worth considering as you hone your art of living . . .
Dial THIS in, and your career will flourish.
BE the Leading Authority you already are, and rejoice!
