Football is Like Life

“Football is like life – it requires perseverance, self-denial,

hard work, sacrifice, dedication, and

respect for authority.”

Vince Lombardi 1913 - 1970, American Football Coach,

Executive in the National Football League

As I see it . . . . . . . .

Football is like life

A successful football team going into the season with a purpose . . . . it starts far in advance of training camp opening. The coaching staff purpose is to win.

A football player continues to work out and train throughout the off season . . . . with a goal to arrive at camp in peak playing condition . . . .  The player’s purpose is to make the team . . . . and play.

At the start of pre-season camp the players arrive at camp . . . . in top playing  condition prepared to perform at  peak level of performance . . . . and earn a place on the team.

The players who are not prepared to compete at a high level at camp will soon find themselves falling behind . . . . and cut from the team.

To get into top playing condition . . . . and to maintain that conditioning . . . .the player has to be committed to work hard . . . . There is perseverance to keep going through the riggers of camp . . . . and a long season.

The player also has to be willing to dedicate themselves to their career . . . . make sacrifices throughout their career to stay on purpose.

One of the keys to success . . . . is respect for authority . . . . When a football player disrespects a coach they will find that career is short lived. In life the person that lacks respect will find that they will not achieve their potential.

Football is like life . . . . those who are willing to pay the price to succeed will find a way . . . . those that don’t won’t.

Hi Lou Ludwig - my husband is a football nut so I absorb some of it.  But to me the last line says it all. "Those who are willing to pay the price...."

Hi Lou Ludwig , As a former athlete,  I can identify with your message. Vince Lombardi definately knew what he was talking about when he said that.
