This time of year, I love welcoming our snowbirds back to Southwest Florida. They come from all over, as far as Canada and plenty of them from the New York and Boston area. And it doesn’t take a genius to figure out why they love our area so much: the warm weather combined with great outdoors makes for a great place to live.

But, if you’re living up north and you’ve only been thinking about moving down here, you’re really missing out. The property is incredibly affordable, even as it grows in value. Plus, in the past decade, our slice of heaven has gained so many amenities that most people aren’t even aware of. We have a budding food and craft beer scene, plus some awesome luxury shopping. For potential snowbirds, owning a second home in Southwest Florida is the opportunity to experience upscale living at a better price. Which SWFL cities should you look at? This list isn’t exhaustive, but it gives you a good place to start. Let’s take a look.

Longboat Key

You probably won’t find Longboat Key listed on many top 10 lists. However, this is one of the reasons it’s an excellent choice. Located on the strip of islands running from Sarasota downward, Longboat Key is a beach-lover’s paradise. The community is small, quaint, and still affordable. It really has managed to stay off everyone’s radar, even though it offers unparalleled views.

South Venice

This Southwest Florida choice is a little further inland than our previous one, but still a good consideration for future snowbirds. Close to Sarasota and Venice on one end and Port Charlotte on the other, this area has several communities that might fit your lifestyle nicely. In addition to affordable real estate, it also has access to amenities like Myakka State Park and Venice Beach nearby, while still be close to shopping and food options as well.

Cape Coral

Or … as we like to call it … The Cape. Located just north of Fort Myers, this area has been seeing record growth, with plenty more in the planning. Still, even as prices are on the rise, they remain affordable, even for snowbirds on a budget. In addition to wonderful amenities like the Edison and Ford Winter Estates, we also have an enormous amount of waterfront property that you cannot believe how cost-effective the prices are.

Pine Island

This choice is another one that really flies under the radar, but Pine Island has a several communities located on the island. Living here is a little more laid back, and even has a bit of a rural, small town feel to it. But you’re still right near the water at a great price. Because it’s not much of a tourist stop like some other Southwest Florida areas, it also makes for a great getaway that snowbirds are sure to love.

Shoveling snow has you thinking about a warmer paradise? Snowbirds, let’s find you the perfect piece of affordable Southwest Florida real estate.
