Home for the Holidays - Charlotte NC
We typically have several events in our home during the holidays - friend parties, client party, team party and of course, the family-and-friend gathering on Christmas Day. So, the weekend and week after Thanksgiving are spent 'setting the stage' and putting trees in as many spaces as I can without 'over-doing' it!
I LOVE THE HOLIDAYS!
Since we have a large family-and-friend gathering for a sit-down dinner on Christmas, I decided a couple of years ago that I would purchase a navy blue christmas tree and tastefully decorate it with off-white ribbon and ornaments, to blend with the decor of our new dining room.
I was SO excited to find a navy tree online but, when it arrived, it was cyan blue (one of my favorite colors - Carolina Panthers Blue - but, certainly NOT navy)! After finding out that I could not return the tree without a hefty 'restocking' charge, I decided that I would use it on my porch and order another tree for my dining room.
*The not-so-navy blue tree!
Well, after assembling the first one, I realized that my dining room needed a tall, really skinny tree to fit in the space that I have. So, I ordered another one - tall and skinny! I decided to use it in my foyer (pictured at top, right) and use the turquoise blue and lime color combination with pastel lighting and it's a huge hit with everyone who walks in my door!
And then there's the 'main' tree in our family room. This tree is full of lights and ornaments that we have collected over the years. We have ornaments from family, our 'sports section' that has Duke and Carolina Panther ornaments, the White House section (with the annual White House ornaments) and the ornaments that we have gotten over the years during our ornament exchange with our dear friends.
The stockings are always hung on the mantle and always filled on Christmas Eve - regardless of the fact that our boys are in their 20's now! This is an especially exciting year because we have added our oldest son's wife, Milissa's stocking! They were married in January of this year - and of course, we are thrilled to have her.
I'm also a huge fan of fairy lights and you can find them scattered throughout my house (including the bathrooms!) in jars and bottles. We enjoy the lights and the memories that each decoration brings each year and love adding to our collection for that 'something new' reminder of the new year approaching.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Thanks for hosting this contest for ActiveRain, Debbie Laity! I had fun snapping shots of the house for this post! I just wish I could take better night shots! They look SO enchanting at night but, the photos don't do them justice! ;-)
