New Agents Words of Wisdom for Getting Started in Real Estate
These are some nuggets I shared with new real estate students. I wish somebody had told me these when I was getting started.
- Your income potential doesn’t have a ceiling. It’s yours for the taking.
- Hard work doesn’t stop at a 40 hour work week. Those that are successful don’t give up.
- No’s are the precursor to the Yes. 5 No’s means you are soon to hear a Yes, that is if you keep asking.
- You don’t want every buyer or seller that comes along. Make sure they are motivated and on the team.
- When you have 3 things that go wrong just know you are ready for 3 good things to happen.
- Never compromise your principles. If you lose your integrity you may never earn it back.
- Giving up/cutting commissions doesn’t get you kudos, in fact they will quickly forget and only remember the difficulties.
- Everyone you meet is a prospect, even other agents, family and friends of agents, literally everyone.
- Keep good records. It will keep you out of trouble and make you money, too.
- Follow up, follow up, follow up.
- Build your future clientele base by continuing to ask for referrals from the beginning of the transaction to many years after it closes.
- This is not a job, it is a career. Build it, invest in it, nurture it for a long, fulfilling and profitable future.
