My 1st trip to the Napa Valley was in 2001. Bob had been there before, we stumbled upon Burgess Cellars and met winemaker and owner Tom Burgess. He was an amazing host we tasted his Cabernet and loved it. We were there with another couple who to say the least were down right rude, they demanded to taste his expensive wine and wanted him to open a bottle. Tom being the magninamimus host opened with grace, he told we too could taste it. We felt so bad for him we bought a bottle. The rude couple bought nothing and left soon afterwards. I was so impressed with Tom. He was a pilot and had fallen in love with California and bought this place in 1972. We had not had a bottle of this in several years, not sure what happened, I think the price went up over our budget that we allow. There was a sale of California cabs and so I saw one bottle of this left and I bought it. I will have to be on the look out for more sales. This cab was delicious. It paired perfectly with our Medium Rare Prime Rib Eyes, the wine has an elegant rich structure with a deep dark Garnet color, the aromas on the nose are of deep dark fruit with a hint of allspice and oak. The taste on the mouth is of deep dark cocoa, deep blackberries with a hint of toasted almond. We will be looking for this wine again!
