FAKE NEWS - Home Prices Slow To Recover

By
Real Estate Agent with ReMax Realtec Group

That was the headline on the Tampabay Times Local section this morning May 3, 2017.

'....less than half of the pre-recession peak..."

"Only 10% have rebounded..."

Although other locations were commented on, the source...the only source identified was TRULIA and one paragraph from REALTYTRAC.

No a single comment from any source actually engaged in real estate.

When the dark side becomes the public voice of real estate we must question what those we pay to look after what important to real estate professionals are doing.

The reality is real estate sales price in 90% of communities are above 2005 levels and volume also well above 2005 levels. This example of FAKE news is from a newspaper that express righteous indignation when others publish FAKE news and declare DEMOCRACY is in danger as a result.

Another fallacy is why are things being compared to 2005 when that economy was driven by Bank of America's fake and rigged Moody rating system. That like comparing a 2017 luxury cruise ship to the Titantic.

What say you?

Hi Annette - I say you have got some great publicity opportunities.  This is a perfect opportunity to counter.

That is a very valid point.

An opportunity.

Fake News or whatever handle we use...homes prices in many of our communities and especially in the price point under $800,000...which unfortunately is the lower end of our market have escalated to prices that are getting ridiculous.

Prices are escalating higher than ever and I don't see the same issues that we had in 2005 as a factor.

What I do see is a trend of buyer frenzy and fueled by fake prices and many sales are being halted by appraisals.

Halted by appraisals.

That does put a unpleasant wrinkle in that sellers must consider in their selling strategy.

I'm convinced that most media outlets can't publish positive news so they spin it into bad news. I've gotten away from watching the news now, because the most accurate thing they have is the weather, and we know how often they get it right.

You are right. If indeed their was a 'chicken in every pot' they would spin a story about chicken life expectancy.

It is like the media has their own ;opioid crisis; that compels them to vomit on everything and claim innocence when they are clearly despised and mistrusted.

Ironically, their only value exists in what they are adamant to declare bad, shaming and bullying.

Annette...it is as if we can no longer trust anything that comes from a reporter. Our PRESS is now sad.

Freedom of speech is symbolic only.

Freedom of press, imaginary.

Land of the free, questionable.

Sad, without a doubt.

They will continue with impunity vomiting over those who they refuse to hear.

Good morning Annette,

It has come to the point the only actual news are the OBIT's they publish!

Make yourself an astonishing day.

When it comes to OBITS, the are doing a better job and SS and the VA.  Every week a citizen walks into those offices declare the report of their demise are greatly exaggerated.

Because of all the "Fake News" I know I'm screwed and rely on only one source I can always count on The Real.

Fake news creates an unhealthy skepticism and paranoia regarding those things we need to know. But without such skepticism people march in Washington without purpose, just to feel they are doing something. I am not sure which is worse.

Annette Lawrence , Palm Harbor, FL 727-420-4041 I'm surprised they didn't get some input from Zillow. Three sources we can do without.

I've said many times, the 'dark side' (zillow) is the voice of real estate. Trulia IS a member of the darkside.

The media apparently did not consider a real estate source. Do you think that may be driven by the pablum that habitually comes from those sources?

I have found myself doing the same because it creates a positive graph. However, I realize, it IS comparing apples to oranges.

This newspaper runs a service called Politfact that places their measures of truthfulness of the statements of others.

This story would get a "Pants on Fire" rating. But they never measure their own truthfulness.

I have now bought two condos in Florida in a little over a year including just now. One was at $100,000 below bubble pricing and one was $125,000 below bubble pricing. I guess it depends on what you consider to be fake.

It can be hard to know when they don't provide a cogent set of facts.  However, we do know the Real value of the US Dollar has declined significantly since 2006 thus, making any kind of comparison without taking into account the effects of rampant inflation can result in fake conclusions.

ZeroHedge dot com is a better source of data, facts, analysis and such related to housing than the article you are referencing.  I like this quote from a 4/30/17 posting:

"And for a practical example of just how crazy it truly is, take this renovated 2-bedroom, 1,948 sq. ft house first built in 1951 in the Eagle Rock section of Los Angeles, which was listed in mid-March for $699,000, was estimated by Redfin at $780,000, and sold yesterday for $980,888 (more than $500/sq foot) and 40% above asking, just over a month after it was first listed."
