Weekend Wine: A Well Balanced Chardonnay

The 2014 Oliver's Vineyard Chardonnay was recommended to us by our friend Jane, owner of Carpinteria wine.  This Chardonnay was given a rating of 93 by the Wine Advocate.  Here are the wine-maker's notes:

"Light straw in color, the 2014 vintage of Oliver’s Vineyard Chardonnay is a stunning expression of the appellation. Aromas of pear and toasted almonds are layered with a hint of oak that continues on the palate. Light in weight and marked with bright acidity, the 2014 Oliver’s Vineyard Chardonnay culminates in a smooth, dry finish."

We loved that it was perfectly balanced, not too buttery, not too oaky, just right.  If you can find, it is priced at $35.  We are hoping Jane has another case in the back.

Dorie Dillard The Chardonnays have been big, buttery and quite oaky.  Some vintners have opted to age them in steel vats to get rid of the oak, which makes too minerally in taste.  This one is just right, we felt.  A

Hi Alexandra,

My favorite Chardonnay is Rumbauer. How does it compare?  I am always willing to try something new but this is by far my favorite.

Sounds like a nice wine!  I recently had a wine day with my brokers and learned that I seem to like the wines with a little bit of spice in them.

Brian England sounds like you would enjoy a Zinfandel.  They are nice and spicy, particularly the "old vines" Zin.  A

I will have to keep an eye out for those type of wines then!  Are any of these good?  A friend of mine gave them to me, so I can stock up my new wine fridge, haha.

We like Rombauer.  I would say it is more on the buttery and oaky side.  This one is very balanced.  We also like Far Niente Chardonnay anAd ZD Chardonnay.  They are higher price points, but well worth it in our opinion.

I like your new picture!

Brian England it is difficult to see the labels from your picture.  You can look each wine up on line, someone will have reviewed it.  It is amazing how the world of wine works, there are so many wine lovers and so many labels.  A
