Heavy Rains Hit Colorado's Town of Central City

Last night, we had some wild weather in Colorado.  It wasn't just isolated to the Denver Metro Area.  It seems everyone was affected by the sever thunderstorms that blew in.

This morning, I received text photos from my sister in law who lives in Central City, Colorado (an old mining town turn gambling town).

She bought her home almost a year ago and has enjoyed the mountain lifestyle.

Last nights storms had her a bit spooked though.

Here is a shot of the side of her house (which is about 140 years old).

There is a rock retaining wall separating the side of her home from her neighbors' yard.  The heavy rains caused many of the rocks to come tumbling down and they landed right against the side of her home.

Here are a few pictures from down in the city (about 1.5 miles away).

This is Main Street in Blackhawk sent to me from a friend who works up there.

This is another photo my friend sent of Clear Creek which runs parallel to Hwy 119 in Blackhawk.

You can see that the storms really piled up the rain there last night.  Hopefully the weather will be a bit tamer tonight.

That is too close for comfort. Hopefully, the rain has left the area and the sunshine is on its way.

We were getting flash flood warnings near my home in Saddle Rock but I am not sure if Highlands Ranch had much.  It might have skipped over them.

Hi Belinda... I got the chills just looking at those pictures! It must have felt even worse if you were in the midst of this rain storm. Here's wishing all a sunnier day today.

Hi Jeff Dowler .  I guess you must pay attention to Mother Nature.  She can pack a punch.

My family didn't know what was going on Nina Hollander as the rocks began hitting the side of their home.

I've seen similar damage from hail storms, Belinda, but never from rocks.

Oh my gosh, Belinda. I'm glad everything is okay, but wow, that had to be unsettling. Those are big rocks.  Hope the weather has settled down. Yikes.

Thanks Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD .  We talked to them last night and they got a bid to reconstruct the wall with some reinforcement.  Now they just need to convince the neighbor to pitch in.

Whoa, that is indeed some scary weather!  Those rocks look pretty big too, luckily they didn't crush the side of her home.

Clear Creek is not so clear today!  That's some crazy weather in your state but I guess the rain is needed to fill aquifers etc... and keep the fires down!
