Isnt it the arts that make us human?
Several years ago I began playing around with an app on my iPad called Paper by 53. It is a simple drawing app with some basic tools for creating artwork. There is a felt tip, fine point pen, watercolor brush, pencil, quill type pen, and eraser. I began creating artwork with the app and it was fun and easy to share on social media. I found that I could have my artwork reproduced on gallery wrapped canvas, and even had friends and family want to purchase them, wow!
I began doing random paintings and it has progressed to home portraits for agents closing gifts, pet portraits, bar and food art, recipe art, and more. Along the way I utilized my artwork while writing my first Kathy's Kitchen Cookbook. I am finishing my second Holiday Cookbook now- with my own original photos and artwork. I also discovered a fun website, Spoonflower.com that could print my artwork on fabric... so I began making aprons, pillows, and placemats that feature my art.
I was lucky to be invited to join an artist co-op in La Quinta, called Sm'Art Studio, which gives me an outlet to not only sell my artwork, aprons, pillow, cookbooks, etc., but a community of artists and creative people to interact with.
Although I never studied artwork in school, (except and one art class in college), I have recently discovered a fun on line resource called sketchbookskool.com. I have taken several classes with them including Recipe and Food drawing and Map-Making. I think the map making idea could really be fun for featuring our community, town, and valley on illustrated maps. Here is my first map of our backyard!
My artwork is an outlet for sharing my creativity, but mostly it brings me so much joy!
