Some Winter Tips for Your Health and Minds

Colorado just had its first snow of the Fall/Winter season this week.  The 80-degree weather today promptly cleared that up, but there are things to consider when working in the winter months.  We don’t always have the sunny, moderate days in winter.  Sometimes we can be stuck without sun for a few days or a week.  It may not sound like much to anyone in rainy states like Seattle, but when you’re used to a certain weather pattern it can take a toll on you.  That’s why we have our Highlands Ranch property management winter working tips.  This slight program will let you keep little things in check while sitting at your desk 8 hours a day, and will complement your mood on those overcast days.

The important thing to remember is to adjust your office habits as you go into the winter months.  This ranges from unhealthy snacking to anything that can affect productivity.  Get rid of the candy bowls, especially in October.  All the leftover goodies from holidays or parties should be given a 5-day period in which they are free game.  After that the leftovers need to be disposed.  You can’t be having a daily donut 9 day in a row.  It will affect both your mood and your shape.  The less these sugary snacks are present the less you will feel compelled to mindlessly eat them.

Make sure your computer screens are at optimal viewing ranges and heights.  If you find yourself constantly looking down to see your monitor, get some good 4.5-inch monitor stands.  The screens should be eye level with you.  The same goes for excessive phone use during the day.  Text neck is an actual thing, and will affect you more than you know.  IT can creep on you when you don’t realize you are looking at your phone for a consistent number of hours per day.

When the colds start to come in (weather and sicknesses) be sure to be on the offensive.  Nothing helps keep you down with a cold than cold weather.  Disinfect every surface now, and try to remember to do so once a month.  Doorknobs, phone receivers, keyboards and coffee pots.  Everything in between.  These items are handled daily, with overwhelming consistency and by people with varying degrees of cleanliness.  Make sure you are staying hydrated at your desk as well.  A large 32 oz. water bottle with the measurements on the side will help.  There are plenty of trackers you can use on your phone to keep your daily water intake measured.  The more you do this the easier it should be to withstand the first round of colds.
