Fishhawk Lake-The First Cabin and its History

By
Real Estate Agent with John L Scott Market Center 700512026

Back before 1967, when the original developer of Fishhawk Lake was interested in creating a man-made lake community, Mr. Brown approached Mr. Watson and asked if he could put a lake on/near some property that Mr. Watson owned. Mr. Brown promised to move this very cabin if Mr. W would let him proceed with his dream. This cabin was Mr. Watson's and it was reported to have been moved twice during the development phase.

It sits in a grand location, with part of its generous boundary actually IN the lake. I always point out this little darling to my buyers, because the story is dear and sweet and so is the cabin.

Mr. W. is long gone, and this cabin was bought online from a gal living in California (so the story goes) and she now lives here full time lakefront on Fishhawk Lake. It is no longer all red, but has been updated, to a mostly brown color. I still crave that cabiny red color, though!

I took this on a cold February day in 2015, while walking my dogs over at the community lodge area, across from this cabin. The cocoon of smoke makes it feel as if warmth is just a step through one of those small cabin doors!

This is an entry for Dick Greenberg's 2017 Photography Contest for the category Real Estate, sub-category, Miscellaneous.

I also like the red paint on the cabin photo as it really pops. Great entry for the contest.

Hi Gayle, what an awesome reflection in the crystal clear water! And this is a man-made lake - how well they must have re-created an eco-system!

Hi Gayle, while admiring the photo, my mind just wandered off to 1960's. Everything was different back then. One think for sure, Fishhawk Lake never lost its charm and beauty. If walls can only talk.
Beautiful shot!

Belinda Spillman those were two of my favorite "heart" pings about this shot. Thank you for enjoying them as I did.

Thank you, Sharon Lee--that red really did it for me. I miss it.

Brian England the history here is very thick! Found out eons ago, that there is a railroad under the lake. Our community lodge used to be a railroad stop!

Dick Greenberg I was dragging my heels at first, but am in the swing now--more to come!

Rebecca Gaujot that type of color red always makes me happy to see on a certain type of home. This "cabiny" red if you will is one of my all-time favorites. I'm sure they don't call it that, tho!

Michael Jacobs so glad that you are one of the judges this year! A rose between two female thorns...?? (Is this a verbal bribe perhaps??) Oh, wait..I hope they don't read this! Oops. Could be my downfall.

Steffy Hristova such a great viewpont, I love it! The waters are fed naturally from Fishhawk Creek and it is our own watersource, and we also have our own sewage system. "Self-sustaining" community!

Jeff Dowler as a traveller and a photographer, it's great that you get excited to read about our little Fishhawk Lake! One of my past clients, now a great friend, is an historian and she's working on updating much of our history.

Peter den Boer ya know, I hadn't noticed that the smoke was rather blue. Thank you, for giving me a fresh look at this!

Of course it was all PLANNED, Anna Banana Kruchten,CRS,CRB,GRI haha!!

Maybe this is one of the reasons I love this cabin, Beth Atalay as it is a reminder of a simpler life. Thank you for that reflection on history of yours. Lovely.

Gayle, wonderful photo on a calm winter day.  Like the story and how the owner was willing to be moved a few times to accommodate the development of the community.

All the best.

That's a heart-warming story. It should be hung over a fire place mantle in a cabin by the lake where more tales can be told.
