We can all use some savings these days, so why not start at home with your energy bill. You can start with the following to cut energy consumption & save money on your energy bill:
- Replace the 5 most frequently used fixtures/bulbs in your home such as the kitchen ceiling light, family room light and the outdoor porch lights with Energy Star qualified fixtures and compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFLs). The CFLs will provide high-quality light, use less energy and lasts up to 10 times as long as incandescent bulbs. Simply remembering to turn off lights when you leave a room will save you money.
- Set your thermostat at energy-saving temperatures such as 78 degrees/warmer in the summer and 68 degrees/lower in the winter and do not override the setting. You should set it & forget it to save energy and money.
- You should wash your clothes in cold water rather than hot/warm. Do not over dry the clothes and clean the lint trap in the dryer before every load.
- Use a high-efficiency, 2.5 gallon-per-minute shower head and take a ten minute shower that uses less hot water rather than filling up a tub for a bath.
