Over the years we all begin to pile up things we shouldn’t hold on to.  It’s funny that when you go to de clutter one day that some things have been held on to for so long that disposing of them is a new challenge.  The best example of something like that were the old big screen TVs.  The ones that jutted out and had all the internal components that couldn’t be recycled.  When people started making the switch they had to deal with these individually in way that wasn’t just, throw it out and hope for the best.  Well this week in Highlands Ranch we have a day dedicated to exactly this.  XpressShred is partnering with the HRCA community association to provide some electronics recycling and shredding service. In Highlands Ranch property management, we often must clear out these exact two items each year, so we look forward to being able to do it in a controlled and correct manner.

This Saturday November 11, at the corner of Highlands Ranch Parkway and Lucent will be an entire parking lot dedicated to getting rid of electronics and sensitive documents. The event will range from 10:00am to 1:00pm and should be able to service everyone in the community looking to drop off an old printer or shred those no longer needed credit card statements. XpressShred is a continuation of the Techno + Rescue recycler.  They spacelike in industrial sized shredders and a large-scale electronics operation.  The equipment is so large, that you need only drop off what you have, and they will handle the rest.  Even though the event is only 3 hours it should not take long to get in and out and dispose of those old things.

The list of what is accepted is quite large.  Anything from old computers to peripherals to larger, obsolete office machinery and TV’s of any size.  The large tube tv’s from yesteryear are the only item that comes with a $20 charge for disposal.  This is a great deal, as Best Buy has stopped taking television units over a certain size for some years now.  In 2017, it should be much rarer to even have this legacy technology in your possession, but if for some reason you have been holding out, use this an as excuse to get it out of your home and a further excuse to upgrade to something much nicer and newer.  TV technology these days is quite impressive.  From paper thin displays, to curves and 3D images, from units spanning longer than your wingspan to the highest definition sets available, there is no shortage of replacement options that should improve your viewing experience immeasurably.

The best thing about this service is that everything you drop off is disposed of properly.  The event is free of charge, with the only exception being special items that require a little more work to depose of properly.  This is the safest and cleanest way to get rid of these items and keep the environment in mind.  It may be alluring to simply go to the dump and drop this stuff off in the landfill, but where you can recycle, or someone can provide a recycling service for you, you should choose it.  The other big benefit is the paper shredding services.  Industrial shredders mean that whatever document you put in there will have absolutely no resemblance to what it was before, much less anything legible.  The new technology combines two directions of shredding to achieve destruction.  It is first run through and split horizontally, over 100 times for a single 8x11 sheet of paper.  The shredding from there are then run through a second, horizontally, cutting wheel, which should then render each piece of paper into hundreds of cubes, each centimeter wide.  These are then all transferred to the large holder, akin to a large garbage bin you might find on the back of a garbage truck in the city, and then all the shredding is deposited into a separate truck to go to the recycling facility.  Even if someone managed to get only the sheet of paper you destroyed, they would have no way of reassembling it in any amount of time it would be worth to dedicate to such a task.  The bottom line is that this is very secure and trustworthy, so bring your most sensitive documents.  The best part is that you are relieved of liability for mishandling any of these documents destroying process, because it is so reliable.  If you were to shred using an at home under your desk shredder, there is no telling what could happen if someone were to dig through that and find and reassemble any of the papers.   Better to just get it over with in one fell swoop and be confident it was done correctly.  The only limit to what you can bring is three 2x4 boxes of papers, to keep the line moving ahead in a timely and orderly fashion.  If you are needing to dispose of more I am sure the volunteers could be open to it if the line permits.  With how smooth everything is usually the line is moving quite fast and people are on site for no longer than 3 or 4 minutes at sometimes.

There will be an optional, tax deductible donation if you wish.  It will benefit the Multi-Cultural Affairs of HRCA.  They are an offshoot department of the HRCA committee, the ones putting on this great event.  IF you use the service and are impressed with it, consider donating.  Small donations like these ensure the probability of this exact event occurring again in the future.  Depending on the volume of donations, something like this could be done more than once a year.  Hopefully packrats are getting this stuff out of their homes much sooner than that, but anything to help.
