We believe in giving back....whether that means in time, money, knowledge, resources, if we are fortunate enough to have something to share with someone...that is what we do. We don't limit it to November/December....and remember that there are children that don't get school lunches in the Summer....that no homeowner ever planned a natural disaster, that disease doesn't just happen to other people. There are people you know who would welcome a phone call, a visit, a meal...a sharing, caring gesture and we feel it is important to BE that person....and so appreciate when kindnesses have been shown to us.
For years, on AR at this time of year I have considered writing this post...and then did not. Everyone does with information what they will....and I am but the messenger. There are some more "seasonal" appeals with goals set by area for raising money for causes....you may have some locally...and we all know the ones that are national that have become familiar on street corners, in the mail, etc. Sometimes we take for granted that because we see some of the "good" that an organization is well managed, that our donation will be well spent....and people truly in need will get the help they need.
Your office has always sponsored this...helped with that...it has to be a good thing...and here it comes...Or not....there are charities that spend money in ways that would suprise you....and for us that means no money, time, energy is sent in their direction.
We learned quite by accident that a number of homes are owned by a charity well known to us all as part of their "perks package" to employees. We certainly don't dictate what any company/charity gives as a perk...but we do decide that if our donation houses $400,000 + homes for employees, we are reconsidering our gifting. That charity can be found here. Further, that same organization dictates who employees may marry, and if they are not within the organization, it can be cause for dismissal. It happened in our community a number of years ago and was shocking to many people who were otherwise contributors.
There are other organizations of "national reknown" that would surprise you as well...donated dollars are not always the priority for the people intended to receive them in many organizations.
This "Giving Season".....we encourage you to give..whether it is food for local pantry, clothing for the winter...or if it is money...and your time and energy....be careful....very careful....and don't "assume" the good...research it first.
