I'm not what anyone would describe as a football fan. I'll watch it if it's on, but I'd almost always rather be doing something else. I enjoyed, when the kids were here and my husband had the game on, the raucous shouting and cheering and booing from the man cave. I'll admit, that I do miss that. More than I expected.
Today the Philadelphia Eagles, after an incredible season, are in the Super Bowl. It's really hard not to get caught up in this David and Goliath theme, especially with a son, studying to be a sport's writer, who lives, breathes and bleeds for the Eagles. When Wentz got hurt this year, he wouldn't have felt worse if it was he himself who was down for the count.
It would be really great if the Eagles win today. For the city, Philadelphia, which is my hometown. For the fans, who for their better or worse behavior, are one of the most loyal of fans. For my son, who cares so very much. For the memory of all the shouting and cheering in my home while the boys lived here.
Here's to the Eagles, with thanks for a great season. The players all seem like really great guys. There's a local boy here, undergoing chemo and the Eagles have been so good to him. It seems to be a team of gentleman warriors. This arguably fair-weather fan is wishing them well and sending them winning vibes. I'm even dressed for the occasion, wearing one of my son's Eagle's tee-shirts.
