Another transaction that was easy to love

Lisa Von Domek has challenged ActiveRain bloggers to write about transactions we loved to handle. Some of my most memorable transactions relate to homes we have purchased to occupy.

Early in my real estate career, Dolores and I were living in a lovely home in the Green Acres section of Churchland in Portsmouth, Virginia. I mentioned that home purchase in A transaction that was easy to love

Fortunately, business was good and we decided to build another home in the same neighborhood. We purchased a beautiful lot and had a set of plans prepared by an architect and were getting ready to seek some bids. One of our friends owned a cooperative unit in the Virginia House on Atlantic Avenue at Virginia Beach and suggested that we should look at an available unit on the ninth floor, with a direct ocean view, before proceeding with construction of a new home.

We took the advice of our friend, took a close look at the cooperative unit, fell in love with it and purchased it. Our architect guided us through a complete upgrade, and an interior designer helped us to select all new furnishings. We lived there for 18 years and enjoyed the quality of life and the business opportunities that we found by living at the beach. We sold the unit when we decided to move to Maryland.

A lesson learned is that a much larger home may not always provide the best personal solution. We do miss those ocean views and the walks on the boardwalk and the beach.

Sounds like a beautiful location Roy. I loved living on the beach and hope to move back there some day. Nothing like falling a sleep to the sound of the waves.

Hi Roy... sound like a coop I would have fallen in love with, myself. Then again, I didn't live in a single family home until I was 50 years old... that's all I knew was apartment style living.

That sentence is very important for folks to understand.  More can often be Less.

Roy,

What a wonderful story!  I love how you were open to trying someone's suggestion which turned out to be perfect for both of you.  I love views of water, and we are fortunate to have them even off the freeway.  A

Roy- I love this story and I'm glad that you and Dolores had some time at the beach and waking up to it!!!   It's not always that we are open-minded enough to listen to suggestions from a friend!
