Clark County, Washington Rainfall - Finding Rainbows in the Rain

By
Industry Observer with Nature As Neighbors

We hear a lot of jokes about how much it rains here, and in the Pacific Northwest in general.  However, you might be surprised to see weather statistics for the United States.

Florida, Louisiana,  Mississippi, and Alabama are actually the wettest states in the country.  Washington state ranks at number thirty, with about 38.5 inches of rainfall a year. In Clark County, Washington, depending upon where one lives, we get about 40-50 inches of rain each year. The national average is 39 inches a year.

However, the rain we do get tends to fall over a longer period of time - and we do get some gloomy gray periods from time-to-time. Over all though, we actually appreciate the climate. After all, our annual rain gives us our lush green landscapes - and in the spring and summer months, an abundance of flowers and blossoms.

And, all the rain gives us an abundance of pristine water ways which support our region's wildlife - and gives us plenty of opportunities for recreation and outdoor fun.

And, with the right gear, and the right attitude - what's a little rain?

In Clark County, Washington we tend to find rainbows in the rain.

Not sure why it is that rainfall rumors seem to persist about your area of the world, but that seems to be the first thing people think of.

JL Boney, III Because it rains over a long period of time - nearly 8 months a year. That can be alot of cloud time. ;)

You have definitely outdone yourselves with this video -Finding Rainbows in the Rain!  When we moved to Delray Beach from Houston, I was getting a little tired of sunshine every day. I missed the rain that Houston would get. Well, be careful what you wish for...it was summer and it rained every afternoon for 2 weeks!

Great video, Deb.  The rainfall numbers definitely vary by area of the state.  We, in central Washington, get only 9 inches of rain per year.  Fortunately, we have plentiful water for growing our crops, keeping things green and water sports.

Debb, your video is exceptional and I love that you took what some see as a negative and turned it into a positive. The rain sure does bring out the color and vegetation. It's beautiful.

With regard to rain, our areas are completely different.  I remember showing someone homes in my area that was coming from your area and they were in awe that we had tv's on our back patios, haha.

Oh, how interesting, Debb! Love the video and am amazed at how professional your voice is - fantastic quality and you're just as beautiful as your photo too!

That said, I would love to know how you did the shot with you and Bernie and what camera you use.

I also like to add the test/write-up, sharing what I said on the video - it's great for SEO as well as those who can't 'listen' to the video at work. Fantastic job!

Hi Debe, the shot in the Rainbows in the Rain video is from our Introductory video. We shot it on our deck using a tripod and our Canon 70D camera. Yes, text and write up is additional SEO - very good point. As well as having the information on YouTube in the "about" area - match the key words in the video. Thanks Debe Maxwell, CRS
