Capturing a Special Time and Remembering a Tragedy

By
Real Estate Agent

I was able to capture a few hours this morning with my granddaughter, Macie. She’s going to start her first year of college at UC Davis in a couple of weeks, but today we seized a window of opportunity to take a little drive to Apple Hill, purchase apples, eat a fritter or two, and sip very fine hot spiced cider.  Apple Hill, as I have written about in the past, is a delightful community of 50 farms and ranches which not only boast apples, but Christmas trees, wineries, a micro-brewery and pumpkin patches.

While enjoying the cider, I couldn’t help but consider how swiftly years have come and gone. Tomorrow marks the 17th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Macie was just a baby in my family’s arms then. This evening, I viewed an outstanding movie, titled, “Shock and Awe.” It is based on the true life events leading up to our invasion of Iraq in 2003. It stars Rob Reiner, Woody Harrelson and Jessica Biel. It was produced in 2017. I was able to obtain it on Netflix DVD. I highly suggest it for viewing. A link to the trailer follows:

Dear Myrl,

Sounds like a great day. UC Davis is the community with the most bicycle commuters in the US. Never been, but should be a nice place to go to school.

Another great photo of Macie, grinning from ear to ear becuase she's looking at YOU, Myrl, and you're always saying something amusing!!

I have not heard of that movie but then I don't pay a lot of attention to war movies as I find them depressing. There have been a few I've been amazed that I've liked, so maybe this will be one of them, too.

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents - This really isn't a war movie.  It's more of a documentary written from the perspective of Knight-Ritter journalists, who tried to warn the nation about the lack of truth behind the intelligence that claimed there were WMDs in Iraq, which led us into war there.  I think you and Adam would find it fascinating!

Myrl,

I enjoyed reading your post and your fun time with your grandaughter. 9/11 changed our history, and I am hopeful that we all spend more time appreciating what we have than nit picking and critiquing!  A

Myrl Jeffcoat - I often think about the babies born after 9/11 and how their lives will change. Macie is a beautiful girl and so much has changed. I hope she will always be happy and her experience in College will be most productive and enlightening. I also hope her graduating class produces extraordinary leaders for their future.

What a sweet grandaughter and it's so lovely that you two had a chance to spend a day together in the countryside. So much has changed in her short life - so much. She is the hope of the country. God Bless America!

So hard to believe it was 17 years ago. I couldn't stop crying. On FB there were some great videos and I cried most of the morning.  Thanks for the link to the trailer as I want to see this movie.
