Tomorrow’s Thanksgiving!
Unfortunately, a lot of people are less thankful than they are rushed, harried, worried, and just barely hanging on.
I get it. There’s a lot of pressure on adults around the holidays. It’s not like when you were a kid and you could just show up at the Thanksgiving table and Christmas tree and receive all the goodness!
However, there are ways to stay calm and collected even in this stressful season. Here are some ideas!
Keep a Gratitude Journal
Gratitude has incredible benefits in every area of your life. Studies show that consistent gratitude can give you improvements in your health, happiness, productivity, social life, and even personality.
One quote I saw that really made me think was “What if you woke up today with only what you were grateful for yesterday?”
Don’t think that a gratitude journal has to be extremely difficult. Studies show that you can spend as little as 15 minutes three times a week writing down what you’re grateful for and get all the benefits.
It’s more important to record the details of what you’re grateful for than it is to make a long list. Don’t forget to be grateful for negative outcomes you were able to avoid! I’ve been thankful more than once for a close miss in the car, for instance.
Focus on Only Three Big Things a Day
One thing that causes a lot of stress is trying to do too much at once. I know I’m not the only one with a to-do list as long as my arm, especially during the holidays!
When we don’t finish everything, we just roll it over to tomorrow. But tomorrow has its own tasks – so the list gets longer and longer.
Why not throw out the never-going-to-do-it-anyway list and just focus on three major things each day? Create a list of three for your business and three for your personal life. If you finish those, everything else is gravy!
That’s a much better way to stay productive and motivated. Not only that, it will force you to decide what’s truly important on any given day.
Smile More
Sometimes you just don’t feel like smiling. Did you know that if you smile anyway, your emotions will improve?
Simply moving the muscles required to smile activates neuropeptides in your brain. You also release all the feel-good transmitters, such as dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin.
Smiling – whether you feel like it or not – can improve your mood, relax your body, and even reduce your pain. It’s all-natural with no side effects. You don’t have to psych yourself into it. Just SMILE!
It’s incredible how much things can change physically just from smiling. It also impacts others. When you smile at someone, they often smile back automatically. Then THEY get all the great benefits as well.
Use This Holiday Season to Boost Positivity, Peace, and Gratitude
Tomorrow would be a great day to start practicing these tips. But there’s an even better day – today!
Why not just sit back for a minute and smile? Write down five things you’re grateful for. Whittle your to-do list down into the three most important things.
You’ll be amazed how much better you feel.
