One of my seminar instructors last year kept pressing the point to always have a pocket full of business cards handy. I have not always been good at remembering to keep my cards with me, but that seminar leader did help a lot. The day I took that seminar, I handed out a few cards to people here and there, and suddenly it made sense. People who need my services are everywhere.
Today, I bought a new car, and while in the sales office, one of the staff members asked what I do.
That lead to lots of questions about real estate and financing options. I easily answered the real estate questions, and I held my own on the financing options, but I did encourage the employee to seek further guidance from a lender.
During our conversation, I handed her a couple business cards. As we talked further, she began asking questions her friends had voiced to her. I answered what I could and we continued with my sale. By the end of the deal, she asked if I had more cards she could hand them out to friends. I gave her everything I had in my pocket (a dozen or so) and off we went. I did encourage her to call if she had more questions, and of course, I offered my services when she's ready to move.
Always have a pocket full of business cards handy. A Home Depot appliance guy recently asked for some on a recent delivery. A client asked for some for a friend, and the list goes on and on. I don't know why I didn't keep a pile handy in the past, but I'll keep a bunch handy from now on.
