When people ask me when the right time to buy a home is, I always tell them that the right time is when they are ready to buy a home. Unless the purchase is purely an investment, trying to time the market perfectly is futile in my opinion, especially if they are renting. I bought my first home in what was considered to be a high market, but looking back at it now, I am smelling like a rose. For the amount that I pay in a mortgage, I couldn't even rent a one bedroom apartment in a decent area, so I definitely feel secure in my cost of housing. Knowing that I have a roof over my head is definitely appreciated. That is the best example I can give to people worried about buying in a perceived high market and why it isn't necessarily a bad time to buy. Instead of paying someone elses mortgage by renting, you will be paying yourself and definitely benefit from that in the future. Naming all of the benefits would take all day, but the biggest one for me is control. Owning your own home puts you in control, it is your home and you get to choose what to do or not do with it. Upgrading the home over the years is definitely a fun thing to do, while also improving the value of your investment. Being in control is a wonderful thing, especially when it comes to your finances and owning a home definitely makes good financial sense!
