Saturday Smiles: Last Saturday in June-Santa Barbara Farmers Market!

We were delighted to see these Japanese Black Tomatoes.  They are also referred to as Trifele and nicknamed Flower-Child.  They are slightly pear shaped and the color is lovely (pictured above).  They are delicious sliced and seasoned with some gourmet sea salt, a touch of aged balsamic vinegar, and a hint of olive oil or any other oil such as walnut, hazelnut and pistachio.

Corn is showing up at many farmers tables.  Corn expresses summer in America.

Pictured above are my favorite little tomato.  They are great to cook with and quickly turn into a sauce.  They also maintain their fresh taste.  They are also great in a salad.

And nothing heralds summer like sunflowers.  We really enjoy having them in our home.

Wishing you an abundance of Saturday Smiles, enjoy your weekend.

I've never heard of Japanese Black tomatoes, Alexandra... but then again, I don't especially eat raw tomatoes. The sunflowers look wonderful... wouldn't mind a bunch of those in my house.

I am growing some of those little black tomatoes in my yard.  They are just beginning to ripen so that I can harvest a few of them.  They are delicious!

Hi Ron and Alexandra - Larry was born in Iowa and grew up in Kansas and is always saying "knee high by the Fourth of July" when referring to corn!!! Corn and tomatoes make me think of a great summer salad.

Oh, I'll have some of either of those tomatoes, Alexandra! I am crazy about them - any way they are served! And, yes, corn is in abundance here now - a telltale sign of summer for sure.

Morning Alexandra.

As you know I never did get my fill of fresh tomatoes last year.  I'm making up for it this year, as I have one at least every other day

James Dray the Italian word for tomato is pomodoro, which translates a golden apple, and an apple a day keeps the doctor away!  I would think a golden one would even do better!  A

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD I know what you mean.  I had a huge planter full of Sunflowers (the giant version) in Napa.  We would see them from our long driveway below as we came home.  And I left them through the winter for the birds to feed on...A
