100,000 Points on Active Rain and Just Getting My 2nd Wind

By

                                                         100,000

When I joined Active Rain a few months back I had no experience with blogging at all.  I was not sure if I really wanted to get into this at the time.  I was quite busy with business, family and community.  I didn't have any idea how you get started blogging.

I registered with Active Rain and set up my profile.  That was easy enough.  Not what?

I began to get flashbacks from when I bought my first personal computer in the early 80s.  I remember the big day well.  I opened the boxes, carefully followed the instructions and connected everything carefully.  It said plug it in and turn on the computer.  A big smile of accomplishment came across my face as the computer made a beeping sound.  Soon a little dash appeared on the screen.  We sat and watched for about 15 minutes until we realized that it wasn't going to do anything else.  The smile left our faces and we looked at each other with the "what now?" look.  For those too young to remember the original PCs and clones, they had two floppy drives and no hard drive.  After reading for several hours I learned to load DOS and the rest is history.

That is how I felt when I started here.  I turned on the computer joined Active Rain and then said what now?  Well the difference this time was instead of a three big thick binders of documentation I had the members. They were so friendly and helpful.  I was not made to feel inferior when I asked dumb questions.  I was welcomed with open arms.

                                                    Mahalo

I want to say a special MAHALO! (Thank you in Hawaiian) to the Active Rain members who helped me get up and running; some directly and many more because of their informative posts that guided me along the path.

I was going to list names, but decided that may not be a good idea for two reasons:

  1. The list would be excessively long.
  2. I may miss someone important.

Since joining Active Rain, I have learned more than I ever would have imagined.  I have made many new friends who I have been able to exchange the knowledge needed to grow my business and to become more of a professional.

100,000 Active Rain points is more blog posts, more responses and more pictures, than I ever thought possible.  Especially when you consider I am a two finger typist.

I would like to express a big welcome to the new members of this wonderful forum.  To those who have been around a little longer, A BIG MAHALO for making this a great place to exchange knowledge and meet great folks with common goals.

Randy,

Congratulations. I remember our first "comments":)  About that singer I really liked with the long last name. Think you were just starting out then. You have flown past me! I am still chugging along, reading and commenting.  Anyway, this would be a nice post to put in the Newbies Group, because that is where people read what to do and its a good example.

Thankyou Randy, I am going to feature it there.     and that's why I did not attempt to spell it:) Brudda IZ. Still makes me feel sad, specially when I listen to the song he sang about his dad dying young and maybe he could have helped. Seems like the same thing happened to him..

Karen - When he died the flags were at half mast in Hawaii and is viewing was in the State Capitol rotunda.  It drew the biggest crowds in recent history.

Randy, I can see why, He had a Spiritual Quality. I loved his over the rainbow. It was actually what turned me on to him.  I searched and searched to find out who sang it and when I did I bought two Cd's. A year later, my son mentioned to me that there was this song that he really liked (my son is older and does not live with me). You can guess what song it was. I was really surprised that we both were drawn to the same singer and song. I made him a Cd. I listen to him in my car mostly.

Karen - I hear that song all the time in the movies and commercials.  That song is getting so much play since his death. It is a shame that he did not live to see the song make it so big.

Robert - It did not take as long as you may think.  Part of it was I was in and out of the hospital in December and had too much time on my hands to play on my laptop.

Now before you pass judgement, remember this is for 'newbees'.

I am new to Active Rain and not up-to-date on all the rules, in & outs or do I understand this 'point' thing.  I don't mean to step on anyone's toes, but what are the advantages of getting 'points'.  Do they help with SEO so your blog is higher in search engine rankings and thus you can drive more people to your website?  Please help me understand.

Edward - For the search engines the points are not necessarily the big deal, but all the different things you have posted to get the points.  That is what helps build your internet presence.

I can say that the points have helped me when someone looks me up.  The comment I have gotten was that they saw I was the highest rated agent in my community.
