For Americans, September 11, 2001 remains a dark and painful anniversary in the collectve memory. United We Stand in grief as we remember the events of this day.
Two other sad tragedies occurred on this date, one just 9 years prior in 1992, and one from Wild West times in 1857. May we always remember these three tragedies, retain these painful lessons, "never forget" and let nothing divide us as Americans as we mourn together on September 11.
1857 – The Mountain Meadows massacre: Mormon settlers and Paiutes massacre 120 other pioneers at Mountain Meadows, Utah.
1992 – Hurricane Iniki, one of the most damaging hurricanes in United States history, devastates the Hawaiian islands of Kauai and Oahu.
2001 – Two hijacked aircraft crash into the World Trade Center in New York City, while a third smashes into The Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia, and a fourth into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The shameful attacks were carried out by craven terrorist members of the hate group al-Qaeda. In total 2,996 people were killed, including many first responders such as firefighters and police officers.
