Thunder LIGHTNING...Rain can be Frightning !

By
Real Estate Agent with EXP Realty 414-525-0563 57026-90 Broker

It's 2;45 .  AM....the weather "alarm" on our cell phones went off around 1 am...and our "Kitty Alarm" had already sounded with Dini letting us know...meowing loudly that the loud and long claps of thunder were disturbing his slumber. Apparently...and not usually...fall is becoming the very rainstorm ridden season in southeastern Wisconsin.

Sooo...once you are awake....you are likely to stay that way...or I am ...Dini is...David...can nap anywhere anytime...sooo not soooo much ! Might just as well do something constructive !

estate sale  We have what is becoming an increasingly large number of estate listings...a new niche ...half a dozen that will be coming on the market at some point. This niche can be a little more challenging than whatever you think of as "traditional real estate." (Is there such a thing ?)

We have a number of clients who are personal representatives for estates, "suddenly single" divorcees, new homeowners, transferred home buyers...all kinds of people who may not be aware of what damage "wet" can do to the homes....or the homes for which they are personal representatives...which may or may not be geographically near them.fire alarm

Time to "sound the alarm" to all these homeowners...who unless they are deaf or very very sound sleepers are already awake...she says as thunder shakes the house.

If there is one more dry basement...sleep lost will be soooo worth it ! #preventraindamagetohomes#checkdownspouts#sumppumpsoperational

This has been a caution/safety post brought to you by Sally K.& David L. Hanson, Broker Associates with EXP Realty, honored to be of service for all things real estate...wet or dry ...in southeastern Wisconsin.

Morning Sally.

The town just north of us has a lot of homes with basements.  I've showed some that were great and sold fast.  On the other hand, I've been in some, that I won't go back in due to water penetrating the basement

We have to be ever vigilant here with . sump pumps, grading, downspouts....it happens often and needs constant attention.

Sally: We do not have many basements here but I can fully understand the importance of reaching out so those responsible for the property can ensure the home is safe and dry.

One thing my phone will never do is wake me because of weather...  it's not even in my bedroom anyway if it wanted to.

As to wet basements, so often this problem can be solved by a downspout system properly drained well away from the house.

Yes Jay Markanich  ut when storms come with record wind...the once extended downspouts may be flying around the neighorhood that have lost their "anchor" to what was firm ground and became mud !

Sally, sorry to hear the weather affected a great night's sleep.   In Denver, we usually get these storms before going to bed.

Sally and David,

Not many basements in Southern California.  And water damage is one of the worst.  Wishing you both a great weekend.  A

What is a record wind?  We had a Cat 3 hurricane here with 115mph winds.  That was a record here.

But when storms happen, and winds happen, I don't need my phone to know!

Oh, I anchor my downspouts to the house and that 115mph did not blow them off!   I would blow my phone off if it started beeping at night though...  Bada boom!

Yep, dirt becomes mud.  Grading controls drainage even in mud.  But water pressure is water pressure and it can build against a house even with grading!  Be sure the sump pump has a battery!

Hi Sally and David- we didn't have basements in Florida or here in Houston but I can see that if you do, major storms + basements can be trouble.

Not too many basements in our area, but water damage can be pretty tough in other places, too!
