I have always believed that anything I have ever done has prepared me for anything I will ever do. So it is in that context that I am grateful for the myriad of experiences I have had, both good and bad. I wish I had been more gutsy in my youth but alas I wasn't. It was a time that was very different than today. Girls became secretaries, wives, nurses, or teachers and that was the norm. I became a teacher.
If I were growing up today the sky would be the limit and actually while I believe limits are self imposed there were exceptions. Ruth Bader Ginsberg is on the Supreme court and she is an example of someone who did not buy into norms. I admire her. She really had no role models, but was focused and determined.
I am a bit old for law school now, but actually considered it in my forties. The road not taken. I couldn't afford the time and cost away from work then. Today it doesn't much matter. I am grateful for the work I had and the difference I made to others. I wonder what opportunities will come in the future and I look forward to embracing them.
When I bought my current really old new home in the Berkshires I transformed my yard into something that brings me joy. I didn't really know the difference between a weed and a perennial but I learned. Life is about learning and I am really grateful I can still participate.
