December Dreams & Best Practices

"The only way to have a friend is to be one."

---Ralph Waldo Emerson

Welcome December with the implementation of your dreams. May you begin this month being mindful of common courtesy using Best Practices.

Think about everything going on in your life that would be of interest to others. Check your calendars. If you're marketing your business, make it interesting. Being unique draws people in. Photos to the eye are like candy to a child. Be sweet when you write.

Use proper spelling and grammar. Keep posts and sentences short. Answer questions and respond to comments as quickly as you can. Be careful about using the right name. For example, "Thank you for sharing, (Name) may be nice but when you respond to everyone the same way and say no more, there is no real connection and people get bored.

If someone asks a question that you don't want to answer, a response may start like this: Great question, (Name). Please contact me directly for more information and I'll get in touch.

Keep your personal, political views to yourself. Writing a comment and throwing in a political slant when the topic had nothing to do with politics is rude. Enjoy the camaraderie of ActiveRain by connecting in a social and friendly way. Welcome December and dream well!

Proper spelling is my shortcoming.  I have my wife read almost every post and I see her roll her eyes frequently.  Thank goodness I have her.  She is better than auto-correct!

Thank you for your reminders.  I always need the political reminder.  I have rid myself of almost all political posts, except Twitter and I am working on that one.

Happy December!

Thanks for commenting, Raymond Henson! You have a partner for life. You are lucky she knows how to roll her eyes and keep you out of trouble. I find auto-correct isn't perfect.

I'm glad you learned something about the political reminder and that you're working on it. I do believe you can't succeed unless you fail and learn from your mistakes.

Happy first day of December!

Happy December Patricia,
As much as we're taught not to judge people, we are judged based on grammar and spelling, aren't we?  I love your suggestion on how to deal with questions you don't want to answer in the public forum. Great advice.

Carol Williams - Isn't it strange how we can easily miss our own incorrect grammar and spelling but can easily spot it on others? When running a business, it is a best practice to not take writing casually and to be more careful.

Thank you, Carol for letting me know which suggestion was your favorite. Commenting can be judged too

May you have a wonderful day.

What a delightful post, Patricia. I often think social media will be our downfall. Now more than ever we need to maintain our manners. Thanks for sharing this, and here's to a joyous December.

Good morning, Mimi Foster - When it comes to social media, there is no excuse, such as, my dog ate the paper; or denying that you didn't do something. Digital is FOREVER....

Social Media etiquette is more important than ever. It can have so much power that it can cause consequences immediately or into the future.

Cheers to you, Mimi for joy to stay in your heart always. Whenever I see your face, a bell will ring in my head, reminding me how important and lucky we are when we have good health.

Good morning, Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP sage advice throughout your post.... some posts are very hurtful and there's no reason for it.... it stirs emotion and nastiness on the site ..... we must all be mindful of what we write and how we say it.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP

Barbara Todaro - With the advent of Social Media, there is too much at stake today. In this world, yesterday is never gone! Being mindful, especially keeping emotions in check and choosing words careful is critical.

I hope the month of December will be filled with joy!

I hope you're day is going great. It was 71 a couple of days ago. Then it started getting cold. We are down to 38 today. Any snow there?

Happy December!!!

Hi Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - We had a dusting of snow overnight but it's just about gone already - so the ground is clear. Our old stomping grounds in Monroe NY have about a foot of snow and ice. So far so good on this side of the country.

Great post, Patricia. Bad spelling and grammar are major pet peeves of mine. I always say they "hurt my eyes" when I read. And as that song goes... "shut up about politics!"

Dec 02, 2019 06:12 AM
Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP

Nina Hollander - sometimes it is worse than nails on a chalk board! When the eyes hurt, that's pretty bad

Politics and social aren't cousins on any type of media.

What an amazing quote - I'm so glad I found your post!

"The only way to have a friend is to be one."

I'd never thought of finding more friends by starting out by being a good friend.    And you applied the quote thoughtfully to some useful advice on how to play in the rain....thank you!
