Nature is good for us. By now, most of us recognize the link between better physical and mental health and time spent in nature. You'll find plenty of research about the topic. But, exactly how much time do we need to spend in natural surroundings to reap the full benefits?

New research finds we need to be in it for around two hours a week. The study, led by the University of Exeter, and published in Scientific Reports, found that people who spend at least 120 minutes in nature are significantly more likely to report good health and higher psychological well-being than those who don't visit nature at all during an average week.

Unfortunately, spending less than two hours a week nets the same results as spending zero time in nature. Apparently, the two hour threshold was consistent across all sample groups too, regardless of age, gender, living location, social class, longterm illness, or disability. "You don't have to be running around a park, sitting on a bench will do," says researcher Mathew White.

The weekly dose doesn't have to come in one single visit either, it can be the culmination of several shorter visits. Further, the majority of nature visits in the research took place within two miles of home. Even a visit to a local urban green space seems to be a good thing. Therefore, it's attainable for most of us.

Our real estate specialty, ViewHomes of Clark County, was born out of this concept. Homes surrounded by nature feed your soul and improve your health and well-being. It's easy to get your weekly dose of nature when you live in it. Time spent in the garden, chopping wood, or sitting on the deck under towering evergreens - it all adds up.

ViewHomes™ grew out of our passion for nature, beautiful surroundings, and peaceful environments. Starting together in an urban environment, over the years we've gravitated towards areas with smaller populations and less density. We now enjoy our lifestyle in a rural environment, but with close proximity to metropolitan areas where we appreciate all the amenities of fine restaurants, shopping, and an easy drive to an international airport.
Living in ViewHomes™ is like having “elbowroom for the soul”.
